I leave as much stem as possible and bunch them up with rubber bands. Hubby made little hooks from fencing tie-wire which work very well. (Just a little "s" shape with the fencing pliers).  I try to harvest when the flower heads are just finishing. There will always be lots of stems that are not long, so I cut them off and put them in little wicker baskets for drying (you can see them in the photo). The harvest takes weeks, but, as you say, the smells are lovely.

Gertie I can't take credit for the sunflowers painting - that is one of Anita Barley's botanical paintings. (Limited edition print rather than the original) She's very highly respected in Australia.  Her husband was from the Melbourne Botanic Gardens - forget his position, but one of the higher ups.

We need to get back to the photos. Too easy to get side tracked. I'll see what I can find that indicates warmer weather.

I'll pass your compliments to Hubby, Lesley.  He took the photo.  They like the leaves of that species of Eucalypt. I'm glad you liked it. I did too.image

Some autumn colour. The middle one shows the new planting in front of the part of the wall that fell down last year and had to be cleared. Am hopeful I have got it right!
