Stacey - i had just done my own googling and concluded wesselton - and your picture confirms - like little fairy skirts ...
problem trees had their tops removed today. OH was here and says they look ok considering - guess i will see in the daylight tomorrow. Most important thing is i can now stop worrying about them crashing down everytime the wind goes over 10mph.
came home to find a pack of 50 free tete a tete bulbs. Need to decide what to do with them. Will probably plant up in pots for this year, and put into the ground next autumn - good idea???
Right husband had a look and voted montanii which I really like and think will brighten the north facing wall and add a nice scent to the garden something which I'm missing.... So he bought me it ( and I sneaked a Uvularia grandiflora in as well!!!!)

If you plant them Chicly what is to stop them doing their best to flower by early Summer... go for it, what fun.
Woody - would you vote for planting in pots now or straight in the ground?
seems to be an evening of votes - next thing you know we will be demanding a referendum on something .......
Not that you asked me (I was having my supper
) but I'd get them in the ground provided it's not too waterlogged. Wonderful essay on planting clematis here http://www.howellsonclematis.co.uk/Pages/Gnews13.html
