Evening all...... Back at work so up in the dark home in the dark Xmas smilies still here is that bad luck? So I went out to look round the garden with the torch!!! It's amazing the little things you can see that you miss in the daylight.... I fear that ally ecinecea are busy rotting with all this horrid weather..... Mind i thought that about my monarda but there are a lot of new leaves at ground level on 2 of the plants.... Mmmmm just in time to be frozen away!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr my seeds arrived today hurrah so tomorrow I will be seed planting by torch light lol...... There was a note in with the seeds ( hurrah got a free packet!!!) asking if I wanted to become a seed shareholder. The owner of the seed place plus x5 others are going on a plant hunting expedition and for £25 I will get a load of seeds from there trip..... im not going to do it as the region they are going to I can't see the plants being compatible....
In my experience the earlier you start seeds the higher the loss rate. Best to leave them to the last possible moment and then give them the conditions to catch up i.e. higher temp. more light, feed etc.
I always try to look after as little as possible during winter, and get going in Spring. Even my Gh is mainly for storage during winter, not propagation .... start that in early Spring.

Thanks for comments - I know the hard part is maintaining it at this level.

Hi all. My garden is sodden, paddled to GH's to let some air in.
Had good day. Mum has actually let me start throwing stuff out "de-cluttering, as it's the modern thing to do"
Only got 99 1/2 % of the house to do.
Got tulips and other bulbs surfacing in pots & some stuff germinating in cold GH..role on Spring.

MIL now at home with oxygen concentrators in place, other than that, little change.
The palliative care team cannot be faulted. The NHS gets a lot of stick, but when it works well, its wonderful.
I'm ready for bed now, have a good evening folks.
Evening fidget, my best wishes to you and your family. Hope your MIL is as comfortable as possible. Look after yourself too x
I'm feeling very tired tonight, i'm off to bed too nite nite all
