That's a lovely message for DD, Hosta - and completely fitting.

Very sad that you have had that kind of grief too. People can be utterly hideous - especially the ones who should be our supporters.

Fairygirl, as others have said, we can't choose our families.

Personally, although I'd never presume to tell others what to do, or not, I've found it easier to move on without them.

I was  once chatting to my niece's husband and my brother was mentioned and he said " I keep forgetting your Karen's dad's brother"

    I replied, " d'you know what? so do I"

Hello everyone. Wow, you've all been busy chatting while I was sleeping!  Good to read back all those pages. I sympathise with family awkwardnesses though. There are some members that I just dont bother worrying about. Our son's partner caused major probs for him 16 years ago when his kids were 3 and 1 , and he has been deprived of their growing up all that time. He did try to get close a couple years ago, but they are so different from us and we don't know what poison she has told them about our son. He sent an email to his son for his 18th wishing him happy birthday, and got a one word response - thanks. He, and we, just get on with out lives and don't let them get us down. Enough of this misery.

We aren't planning anything special today, but will probably go for a wander into town to see what everyone has been doing over the silly season. Hubby thinks the shops will be closed on NY eve, but I don't think they will. All I hope for is that the drunks down in the village keep their NY celebrations to themselves.image My sympathies to Wonky and OH for noise pollution etc.

Hosta, not to tell you how to suck eggs, but I always find that Saline Nasal Spray (from the chemist) is a good way to get things on the mend after head colds and if they are a bit slow to go away.  (You need one each though - not the sort of thing to share).  I use a marker pen to write our initial on them. In case I don't get the chance to do so, I hope your holiday is a beaut.image

Just read about your sister issues DD. As Hosta elegantly put it, you are a Super Woman, any one who tries to make you feel inadequate, needs medical attention.

You put most of us to shame.

How can you lie there and think of England

Is anyone else having problems downloading their January GW mag?  I feel a bit deprived.

Sorry to miss you Panda. I didn't check because I thought you'd all be asleep. I assume you've gone to bed now, so I hope you can get some shut eye before going to work.

Not feeling too happy - Hubby has just left for a fire call out. Not sure where the bushfire is, but I've called one other fellow to help him, so they will meet up at the fire shed. I hate this waiting around for news until he gets home. It's very hot and windy out there today.

In an opposite situation, in the Northern Territory, the monsoon has started and they're expecting flooding right down to Alice Springs - if you can believe that!  Can't remember when they hold their "Henley on Todd" boat race up there, but they run on the dry river bed (Todd River) with their legs thrust through the bottom of their boats.  They might have to use complete boats if it's this time of year.

My Christmas present arrived from the UK today - 36 Winsor and Newton pigment markers.  A rather impressive range of colours and I'll be able to colour in my adult colouring books to my hearts content.image
