Totally stuffed here. Time to go eating healthily for the rest of the week. Marzipan fruits count don't they.?

  • What have you done wrong, Fidgetbones, to suffer the dreadful punishment that is marzipan...?

Not a big fan of Burn Gorman as a looker..... as an actor..... image

Had Ma and Pa visiting for tea and cake this afternoon and we watched High Society. I have never seen it before, but was confused, was expecting more singing and dancing image Enjoyed it though image

There do seem to be a lot of poorly peeps about at the mo - hope you all rest up and take your meds and start to feel better soon image

  • Hello all!

My Granny and I used to share a box of liquorice allsorts at Christmas.  My favourites were the blue or pink round ones with aniseedy balls on, which she detested, while her favourites were the coconut ones - you've guessed it, I hated those!  The arrangement worked brilliantly.  image

Thanks for thinking of me, Fairy.  image  We were in no danger but it was truly awful for those who watched the water rising way beyond levels ever seen before...  Still no news from my friend in the narrowboat, though her boat seems to be unscathed so I'm hoping she's just somewhere with no internet access for Christmas.

We drove (very slowly, traffic lights weren't working cos there's still no power) through the centre of Hebden Bridge today.  The Dunkirk spirit was very evident - the town was swarming with muddy, smiling people, giving each other mugs of coffee and working together to drag furniture etc spoiled by 6ft of floodwater onto the pavement for collection.  The army and Environment Agency workers were in evidence too.  I'm sure it must be more bearable when you know all your neighbours are in the same boat (so to speak...) - but still pretty harrowing, losing treasured possessions (and vehicles) because of the speed with which the water rose.  There are still flood warnings for our valley for the next week, but fingers crossed they'll not come to anything.

Anyone out there got any hints on why our Christmas goose was tough this year?  I cooked it exactly like last year's bird, and it came from my favourite butcher, but it had very little fat (something I've never encountered before with a goose) and was decidedly stringy.  The family suspect it was an old bird which had been running around too much... image

Right.  Better stop and be sociable... image

  • I've just checked the Environment Agency website & they've lifted their flood alert for our river  image

You can buy the big purple one Steve. If I was Dove I'd link a pic but since I'm not that savvy, use your imagination imageimage

  • The purple ones are OK. I mostly just want the coconut ones and the ones with the sugary orange flavoured crystals in!
