Hello all (how's that, Verdun?). We had a very disturbed night with HRH getting up and down several times so we're both feeling a bit ragged this morning. She slept most of yesterday in the cool house and I think didn't feel sleepy last night. It's a bit hard to keep her active through the day when I refuse to go out in the heat except for quick forays to change hoses. I've worked out that if the old saying that a dog's age is equal to 7 times ours, that makes her 98 in our terms. No wonder she is nearly deaf and blind and sleeps a lot. I think she is also getting a bit confused lately.
Re. Snakes, I just make sure that I'm looking down when I go outside.
Best wishes to all of you with health and injury issues.
I just remembered a scary/funny story about snakes. When I worked in Canberra, one of my fellow workers received a phone call from his sister who lived on a property saying, in a panic, that there was a snake in the house and was hiding amongst the Christmas presents under the Christmas tree. He nonchalantly went home, collected his rifle, and went to her house and got rid of the snake. I kept thinking what a surprise the kids would have received on Christmas morning scrambling under the tree for presents! There is one rule here, that is never missed, and that is that you don't leave ANY door open. Always have, at the very least, a fly screen door shut. I should admit that snakes are protected animals and that people arent allowed to kill them, but there is a limit to how tolerant we can be!
It seems hot here too Pat - or ridiculously mild anyway - no need to have the heating on, except to dry the washing
Today will be a day of cooking ahead for the weekend - tomorrow is OH's birthday and we have a day out planned, so I'll make something I can just pop in the oven when we get home. Then on Sunday I'm 'playing Santa' and driving the length and breadth of East Anglia dropping off presents, so I'll make something that we can re-heat for our supper.
RB - glad son's leg's coming along - I do hope that he's getting help for the trauma as well as the physical injuries.

Hubby is currently turning berries into pastry filled shapes. I'm sitting in the evening breeze on the verandah to get away from the oven heat. Rather pleasant. I'm glad youve had a respite from the freezing temps today. HRH doesn't quite know whether to sit or dance around, but she'll get it if I stay here long enough.
There has been a request for Cauliflower cheese for tomorrow's supper (we'll be having lunch out, probably here http://www.no1cromer.com/ .
Tonight's supper is slow-roast belly pork slices with roasted squash and the spiced red cabbage and apple I made yesterday.
For Sunday's supper I've got some lovely pieces of shin of beef on the bone - I'll make a casserole with that, mushrooms, carrots, celery, some good beef stock, herbs and juniper berries and we can have that with squash and red cabbage from the day before.
So cooking that lot and doing some knitting will keep me occupied today.

Hi Dove. It's our sons birthday tomorrow as well, but we won't be seeing him until closer to Christmas. He has already got a present that he fancied.
Morning/afties all. Weirdly mild here too - though slightly colder than it it with Verd I expect

Watcha cooking then Dove?
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
