Clari, stripping paper is one of those tasks where 80% of the work is done in 20% of the time, it's the other 20% which is a b*gger.

Use plenty of water on it and leave to soak in, then add more water if needed.

I've stripped tons of the flippin' stuff when working with OH. " let the water do the work" is his mantra.

Clari - if you both love blue just go for what you're happy with.  There are loads of different shades - there are thousandsimage  Aqua, turquoise. Aqua, turquoise - well they're my faves.  I went for pale grey in some rooms and they are just boring!

I just love reading the names of the paint on "that" paint chart

Stopping for a break. The last wall is refusing to give up its paper so it sup my tea and attack it with more vigor.

Lesley: the hallway was grey (thick layers of paint on top of textured wall paper... agh! The water can't even get to the paper such is the thick layer of paint) and it's amazing how much lighter it looks in the smokers yellow plaster.

Lets just hope his lordship appreciates how busy I've been. I was only meant to be doing one wall of the landing where he'd damaged it putting a new loft hatch as this area is last on the to do list for the grand designs. But hell if he's going to be busy on the monster garage project (top of the list: presuming he thinks we can then live in it while the house is done?) I'll need something to keep me busy. A paint pot might be just the thing.

Only thing though: how are you meant to reach that bit above the stairs??

Clari - funny ladders that morphimage.  Try cross-hatching the wallpaper with a Stanley knife and it will soak in better.

Steam stripper, hire one if you cant borrow one. It kind of melts it and you can peel it off in huge pieces. Works really well on painted anaglypta and woodchip.
