Also a strong timber which can absorb impact without splintering, therefore traditionally used in axe handles and for the rim of a wooden cart wheel. I grew up on a farm in a village both named for the high incidence of ash trees in the area and they have long been my favourite native tree.
If we lose our two mature ash trees it will be a disaster for the wildlife in this garden.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hello all, supposed to be cloud & some sun today, but it's drizzling.
Dove fingers crossed for your Ash trees. The Acer Grisuem at M's hasn't gone mad with growth as most trees do at M's. I will confirm how old it is and post a picture when it get's it Autumnal colours. I do think it needs pride of place to appreciate it.
Morning all, dry and a little breezy here. Went out last night so couldn't answer your suggestions for trees. Will read through them again and make notes. Thank you all. Must get my last few plants in today. And do the food shop, not my favorite job. Hope the weather stays dry. Hope all the poorly people are feeling better. See you later.

Dove, pics from June.
Thanks KEF - that's helpful - I think we can only consider this if we lose the ashes (and no Verdun, I don't mean to the Aussies!!!)

Good luck with them, Dove.

Thanks BL
Right, I need to get on with stuff - tidy house and strap down stuff in the garden in case of storms - we're off later today for a few days
