I have a rose bud and some pansies and violas. Do you count each viola flower or just the variety as one? Hellebores not ready yet.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Since Verd has the advantage over the rest of us when it comes to tropical weather, I suggest that his results are divided by 2. It's only fair

    Good idea WW.

Yes that's one Verdun.  You'll have enough advantage over the rest of us without counting individual blooms image I may be jealous. But not really. You get to know your own climate and how to garden in it. I'd have to learn a whole new strategy if I didn't live in a desert , except for last year when I lived in a swamp for months.

    Okay Nut, just flowers. image

Woody re: Verd, divide by 10 would be fair image

So is it number of plants with flowers on? Or a species that counts as one ? As I have 2 different varieties of Hellebore flowering ...I can see I'm soooo going to win imageimage

p.s. Can I count in M's garden as well ?  She still got lots flowering. That's KEF trying deperately to cheat image image

  • How  long ago was it when all the experts, including many well known gardening gurus' were telling us to get used to growing more mediterranean and drought lovers. What a nonsense. They predicted more predictable weather patterns of hotter, drier summers and milder winters. It only takes one hard frost to turn such a garden to mush. Our own gut feelings about such matters are always more accurate.

( when a so-called expert makes a confident prediction or forecast I always ask... "would they bet their pension on it?")

That's my last rant in  '13.

Still 11.5 hours left Woody - plenty of time for some more rants yet !!  OH just come back from an aborted trip to the SM as he couldn't get in the car park for the queues ... he still has plenty of 2013 ranting potential in him ...

Nut - why don't you open a new thread for the NYD flower count?  That way posters that don't venture on to the Forkers thread can join in the fun too image.  I'd do it myself, but not sure I would get the rules absolutely right - and that could cause untold confusion image

Oh - and just bumped into a neighbour (had to explain I was searching my garden for flowers - he looked at me a tad strangely).  They were the ones without power for 5 days over Christmas.  They have been offered £75 per person compensation for Christmas Day and £50 pp for Boxing Day - so some of the headlines in the papers about shoddy electricity company behaviour are obviously not universally true.

Hellebores might be a special case KEF. all those orientalis hybrids can't be the same hybrid can they?image I don't know, what do you think?

I usually have hellebore x however many plants are flowering. But niger or any other species or hybrids are extra.

that mediterranean prediction was totally out WW,  I think we all know that we just get day to day weather in these islands and predictions are a waste of time, only useful for filling newspaper pages
