The mountain rescue service is, like the RNLI boats, manned by volunteers who do it because they like rescuing people from the mountains. However, there is indeed a cost inviolved and any idiot who goes out - alone - in those conditions....
I'm going to use JustGiving next year - the whole walk thing happened by accident when I decided to do it for CinN. I was winging it really! Not sure why I hadn't thought of it sooner. With some of the forumites going through difficulties with OHs having heart problems, I decided to do one for British Heart Foundation next year. 2018 will be for the Erskine Hospital ( for war veterans) up here, as it will be the 100 year commemoration of the end of WW1. The year my late Dad was born too.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
With you guys on nutters climbing mountains in trainers and a t shirt and sailing into a gale in a blow up boaty thing.
If you're involved in a car accident and need an ambulance, they send you a bill ( road traffic act 1991) they should do the same with those nutters.
I've spent a nice afternoon burying agapanthus up to their collars in the polytunnel. Thought I'd finished and earned a beer then spotted another 8 hiding. Tough, They'll have to wait until tomorrow.
In 1980 I was sent a bill after being taken to hospital by ambulance after a guy turned right, in front of me, when I was on a motorbike. I added it to the claim when I sued him.
Afternoon all - & Gertie - sorry I often just pop in for a quick read but don't have time to post or have time to post and none to read, especially if it's been a chatty day.
Had a lovely time at the market, it was super busy, a really exciting buzz about it, everyone chatting and catching up with gossip, I wonder sometimes where all the people come from, often the town can be deserted. Market day is only once a fortnight and I think they all wait until then to come out. Managed to get myself some nice heathers for winter colour in-between gossiping and some garlic and white onions to plant up.
This afternoon been practising making Xmas cards from Charlie's fingerprints - I am helping in school next week - we have 85 children to fingerprint - hope they are a bit less wiggly than Charlie. This is what we are hoping for - we'll see.
Keep fit club tonight, hope the new instructor is gentle with us, need to save all my energy for the race on Sunday.
Apologies also for not sharing cake yesterday, all the students polished it off rather sharpish, think they liked them, some actually asked for recipes so with a bit of luck they might bring their efforts in next week.
That's all for now, have a lovely evening all and hope the weather isn't too bad.

Sounds like you will be doing a good job raising funds for the next few years then! Have just been reading the Lochaber MRT Facebook page - seems a lot of people feel the way we all do. If I was that hillwalker I'd be keeping a very low profile & making a very large donation.
Cannot believe the MRT is struggling to fund adequate radios and other basic equipment & also that there is such poor insurance provision for them. Hope this high profile rescue gets things changed for them.
P'doc - ooh you've got me going now. Is it too early to light the fire & pour a G&T?? It is dark & blowing a hooley out there after all...
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Hosta - you should send that quote to the Lochaber Mountain Rescue and the RNLI
Is that true about a bill if you need an ambulance? Didn't know that.

Meant to say, hiya Gertie. I see you too.
Thanks Fairy - love those green triangles.
