Must admit - my first thought was sparrowhawk Hosta. When Merlins were mentioned it reminded me of my walk, and although I looked at the pix on the signage, I didn't pay colse attention. Sparrowhawks eyes are quite distinctive and piercing, and their plumage is very grey, but perhaps Merlins are as well. The one I saw later was too far away to see with any accuracy. The tails are certainly different, but you'd have to see it in flight to tell.
Glad you're just plotting in the privacy of your own home doc. Far safer!
Rain's arrived here and it's cold.
Back to work now. Stay warm and dry everyone
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Just got the last green tomatoes picked and indoors on big meat platters on the sideboard. We've had way more tomatoes this year than other years, despite slightly fewer plants. Most successful have been the Roma plum tomatoes - a really heavy crop of good cooking toms.
I just got the bedlinen in off the line too, faint spits of rain. The thing is I didn't wash my hands after picking the tomatoes before I got the bedlinen in - result ... green fingermarks on corners of duvet cover
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Wow, you lot are hard to keep up with! It took me ages to read back - fun though.
I'm obviously not up with the plastic bag discussion as it applies in the UK, but this problem is world wide, so I'm aligning myself with your comments. We separate our rubbish in the house into three bins - paper, recyclables, and garbage. The garden waste is dealt with in a separate section of the tip. There is no rubbish collection at houses, we all have to take our stuff to the tip which opens Friday to Monday for a couple of hours. Anything like tyres, car batteries, oil cans, old computers and televisions are dealt with separately and we have to pay for each. (A bit primitive).
Back to my photos this morning - it always surprises me when those particular irises suddenly flower. They sit there for ages with scrappy nothing leaves and then wham - bright blue flowers that hit you in the eye. hubby came back with some photos of the fire trail that they are supposed to negotiate in the fire season. Could be fun if there's smoke and flame around. I'll try to post one so that you can get an idea. The problem is that there was fire there 3 years ago, and because Acacias need fire or heat to break the coating on their seeds, the result now is that they have all done very well. The photo wouldn't upload, so l'll try separately.
We were just thinking of having a few days away somewhere. Have googled a few hotels in Bath, Oxford, Cotswolds, Devon etc. And saw that one, just wondered if any body had eaten there. Its a Marco P White restaurant.

ditto Dove.I have to fill a washing up bowl later for hubby to take to one of his " old girls" so she can make chutney.
I was disappointed with Roma last year but , following reviews on here,I planted more, as I had the seed.
They've come in very handy with chutney.
How can anyone NOT love Dusty??? I'm shocked.
Duh! What am I like??? when I was fulminating against Pat Archer I meant Ruth Archer

I'd agree with her being a bit "stiff" runny, but the voice? Drag queens up and down the land have been singing her back catalogue ever since.
I stood next to Marty Pellow at the bar during the interval of Tosca at ROH. He was indeed handsome.
This is the photo of the fire trail which has become overrun with Acacia. Hubby says its on the top of a ridge.
