Liri - sorry I couldn't reply sooner - had to go back to work! Mine doesn't have a hole, but I know lots of them do. It depends on what the problem is I think, or maybe it's just for ventilation! Mine has hinges - one each side, running the full length,  and there's a 'doughnut' of padding round the kneecap to keep it in place. Wide velcro strap above and below the knee. I was slightly sceptical about how much use it would be, but I can't believe how well it works. I forgot to take it one day on a lower level walk, and as soon as I started the descent, I was in agony. Haven't forgotten it since! It's made by Donjoy and was about £35. I just googled knee supports .  Worth every penny for me. image

  • Thanks very much, Fairy.  I'll investigate that one...  I'm sure OH will say "don't bother, it won't work", so I may have to buy it for him as a present.  Then I can complain if he doesn't try it!  image

I've just been picking runner beans, and munching the odd one as I went.  Then when I came indoors I had a sudden thought: are raw runner beans poisonous?  I haven't died yet, but the internet isn't conclusive on this.  Anyone know for sure, please?  I feel absolutely fine at the moment, the beans were much tastier raw than cooked, and I'm sure I've eaten them raw in the past, but it would be good to know before putting them in a salad.

I hope your lot get better soon, yviestevie.

I was underwhelmed by the viking museum. So I went shopping. I was going to treat myself to a bit of Royal Copenhagen hand painted china. Then I picked up the box and saw " made in Thailand"' . That coupled with the extortionate price , made me put it down again.image

Off out for dinner now. A lot of the festival seems to be an excuse for bad kareoke. I've heard cats sing better.image

KEF - I've been watching Prime Suspect too. Hard to believe it was such a long time ago! First one was superb  - they should just have stopped there. Still have part of it to watch - kept falling asleep image

Those goldfinches must have been a glorious sight doc. We don't seem to attract them here. When I lived round the corner, we had loads of birds visiting but I only ever saw goldfinches once or twice, and only ever two at one time. At my last house, more rural, it was the same.

Last day at work tomorrow then off for our hols. Looking forward to it, although I may want to come home after three or four days. Hopeless old mare   image

Haven't had time to come here today, until now.
We had to leave here at 10am to get to Riberac to meet friends who live 1h30mins the other side of Riberac, then we were all meeting other friends who live near there and going to a restaurant for lunch.
But I had to do Archie's 2 big penicillin injections, the oral anti-inflammatory medicine and clean up the wound. Archie wouldn't keep still, then the 2nd injection site bled, although I'd made sure the needle wasn't in a blood vessel. At least I managed to squirt the oral medicine down his throat.

Then the farmer arrived with hay, big 200kg round bales. I had to take all the string off it. By then OH appeared looking anxious as it was time to leave and I hadn't had breakfast. Had to rush in, wash and change, then drove like the clappers to arrive just in time. But our friends had arrived early and hadn't realised the car park was a pay in advance one, they rarely are in France. They went for a 10 minute wander and got a parking ticket.

Then we went to the other friends, but I had an elderly moment and couldn't remember where their house was! Found it in the end. Had very nice lunch on a terrace overlooking the Dronne river.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
