  • We don't have any open fires here - we offered the timber to next door who have a log burner, but he said he didn't want to have split it and he'd just had a load delivered - so the tree feller is taking it away and knocking £70 off the price.

  • Anyone heard from Lyn lately?  She's not posted since the 15th - hope she's ok image

Wow!  That's a great reduction.  Mind you, if you look at the price of little bags of 'logs' outside shops.....

Hope the work's goimg well anywayimage

£70 off the price seems a very fair deal Dove. We had a large load of ash delivered about 2 weeks ago & also had the oil tank filled up so I hope we're all set for the cold snap. Might have to make a beef casserole this weekend.

I haven't seen Lyn I'm afraid - hope she is ok. Hope Runny is ok too & everyone else with stress and illness to cope with.

Off into the garden now to collect up the last of the leaves which were blown into nice convenient piles by this week's strong winds. Will also do a last lawn cut before taking the mower for service.

A lot of stuff which was looking all nice and perky in the garden has suddenly folloloped everywhere so could do to have a good tidy up / cut back if it stays dry.

Quite like working outside when it's cold and dry - woolly hat, thermal socks and gloves keep me nice & toasty & it's good to breathe the fresh air at this time of year image

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
  • No haven't heard from Lyn, Dove. Perhaps Hosta has. Hope she's ok.

Sglily, I make a small bag which can lay flat in my pillow slip and put lavender heads in it. It really does help with sleep. I think what it does is gives you something else to think about because you are conscious of the perfume and takes your mind off whatever else is on your mind. I actually sell quite a few of them in the little gallery where I volunteer.

Topbird, I'm with you. I'd rather put clothes on than reach the stage where there's nothing much else to take off. Before we got the air conditioner. I used to have to get into bathers and sit in the bath to cool down. (Bit awkward if you drop your book, though)

Dove, sounds as of the tree fellers have done a top job.

  • Thank you Topbird, I might try that.

Thank you also Pat, is it quite a mild smell in the little bags.......as I'm really sorry but not a lover of the smell of lavender. Probably due to childhood memories of the strong smell of an Aunts  lavender polish image........can smell it now!

I too would rather be too cold than too hot - as you say you can always put on more clothes.  Or be more active.

    But we're a hardy lot, we gardeners!image

SGLily. The dried lavender heads are much milder than commercially produced polish. A really nice natural scent (English not French lavender) I hope you can get some and try it.

     Good afternoon all.

So sorry to hear about Runny's son. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. It's been a terrible week with Paris and the bush fires in Australia.

I went down the garden to pick up the last of the apple windfalls and saw this daffodil. I usually have some in flower at Christmas but never this early. On our local radio it said the daffodil growers needed a cold spell to start the bulbs into growth and the flowering might be late this year because of the mild weather and they would miss the peak time to sell the flowers.
