Having spoken to Wonky I know that she was taken care of by a qualified First Aider who was a guest in the house, so I'm not stressing tooooooooooo much
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Lesley - people just don't understand how terrible our midges are- not like these soft southern ones at all. The Glaswegian ones carry knives and everything....
Bench painted and a few other things done. Grass at front still to cut but that won't take long. Took some pix of back garden so might put them on later with a 'before' one.
Daughter's doing meringue I may have to bake a little something for tomorrow.
I don't eat bacon but I bought some Serrano ham which I like dry fried with scrambled egg. Is that a bit too posh?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Very posh Fairy. I decided to try the weeds up the side of the house but the b******, sorry, little devils soon found me there too.
Used to like marmite, sparsely spread on a ryvita. You're tempting me to buy another jar that will last for three years or more.
I gave my Dad a shock while I was there. I put his tea tray on his knee and a while later he spluttered and said his strawberries had salt on them. Well, when I lived with them my Mum always used that jar for caster sugar. Poor soul took a while to get over it and I'll never be allowed to forget it
Wonky - hope all goes well tomorrow & your arm is not too sore - oil & fat burns are particularly nasty.
I had bacon rolls for lunch too - but not as posh as Hosta's and definitely not as posh as serrano ham and eggies which sounds absolutely delish ...
I thought Oxo & hot water was enough but Oxo and milk - that has freaked me out a bit!
FAIRY - we were going to move to beautiful Scotland when OH retired and made sure we did plenty of holidays through the darkest winter months as well as spring and lovely autumn to see what we would be letting ourselves in for weather wise. All fine. Then we realised we had never been in the height of summer. Rented a cottage on the Ardnamurchan peninsular at the beginning of July and could hardly venture outside for the midges. It was truly dreadful - certainly no sitting outside with a drink to enjoy the spectacular view. Poor OH got bitten to death in spite of various lotions and potions. It really put us off the whole idea - will just have to come and visit instead.
Didn't buy anything at Wyevale. I would not have taken any of the sale plants even if they were giving them away - dreadful condition and very very boring selection.
Have just put the sprinkler on the woodland border. Everything is wilting again - we got about 20 mins of light ain when everybody else had the deluge. Very tedious
Off out to water the nursery bed and dead head the cosmos and roses.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
The wet weather this year has been perfect for them unfortunately. They can be vile. I have to be among them for quite along time before they get to me so I'm quite lucky. The Avon product is supposed to be a good deterrent - 'skin so soft' I think it's called. Walkers and outdoorsy people swear by it. Or you'll just have to get one of those hood things with the netting
Of course, if you buy a house up north, you'll really need a conservatory to enjoy the views...looking out through the pouring rain and fog

The house was in the perfect location for midges Fairy - next to the water, surrounded by trees and in the lea of a hill so sheltered from the wind We did see some men working in the trees up near Mallaig - they all had the hoods on - must be quite uncomfortable to wear.

Tomorrow I'm going to help son and look after 2 little granddaughters while they go and exchange contracts on their house. Then DIL, 2 little GDs and I are coming back here as notaire/solicitor has gone on hols so they can't move into new house for a week. Then rest of family are coming for the weekend as they want to see their brother's family. He lives about 4 hours from here and moving further away for new job. That will be 8 adults and 9 children and babies. Like at Christmas!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
