PatE - Bressingham Gardens were created by the late Alan Bloom, a famous plantsman and gardener who 'invented' island beds - his garden is The Dell Garden - the neighbouring Foggy Bottom is his son Adrian Bloom's garden - he is also a famous gardener, plantsman and writer - have a look here http://thebressinghamgardens.com/
Alan Bloom was quite a character and also a steam engine enthusiast, and his collection of steam trains and vintage fairground rides will be running today too.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all . afraid the summer holidays are keeping me busy so haven't had chance to nip in of late. My garden is in an awful state! Mind you so is my hair and my car!
Your trip sounds restorative, and it certainly is something most of us would appreciate hearing more about I hope you find your garden in good nick and a pleasure to come home to. What an amazing view of the world you experienced!
Morning all, I know nothing about asters except the little clump forming ones are dead easy to propagate, but they remind me of granny flowers (apologies to any offended grannies ) a little old fashioned for me, so be sure to head for the more airy forms Dove . Enjoy your trip all those who are going
Busy day for myself, housework needs doing after weekend shifts and I feel like that rhino with the dancing shoes has been on my bed again
How nice to pop in for the first time since my visitors, and find such a lot of interesting news! I won't be able to read back more than a day or two, I fear, or the h****w**k won't get a look in...
Punkdoc, your trip sounds amazing. A bit TOO exciting for me, though I'd love to see your photos too. Welcome back! Hope your garden has been well looked after in your absence.
Dove and crew, have a great time at Bressingham. It's on my list...
Hope your day is bearable, Hosta. Toasted olive ciabatta sounds good!
DD and Lizzie, I'm doing a rain dance for you
Enjoy your Monday everyone - if possible - "whatever the weather". (Was it Alan or Geoff H who said that each week at the end of GW? Something like "Enjoy your garden, whatever the weather"?)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Ooh, forgot. Can def. recommend dry stone walling as a means of losing weight. And 2" off the waistline!
Just a few (hopefully not too boring) photos from Scotland...

and a Lesser Butterfly orchid on the little island with a causeway, on the previous photo. I did a bit of a survey of the flowers on this island when I got fed up with doing jobs (you can walk there at low tide, 2mins from cottage) and found 5 orchid species in flower - this one, Early Purple (late for this but it had been a cold spring), Twayblade (curious green flowers & leaves like plantain), Marsh or Spotted (like the one Fairy posted a photo of) and Fragrant orchid, which looks like this -
and smells divine, as does the Lesser Butterfly orchid - the whole island was scented with them.

Morning all.
Welcome back Pdoc, please start a post with stories / photos of your trip. Sounds wonderful but I'd much rather look at snow than be on it.
Another day helping OH decorate our neighbour's house to-day. I've made it quite clear I DO NOT WANT TO DO IT.
He's bribing me with beans and toasted olive ciabatta.
