Hope you are all well, as it is unlikely I will read back.
Trip was amazing, sat on top of the world. Having a barbecue in the midnight sun at 81 degrees North, when we were apparently the most Northerly people on the planet, was wonderful.
The Arctic is strange and very beautiful. Amazing mountains, glaciers, icebergs and wildlife. This year the sea has remained frozen much further South than normal, which was beautiful, but made the research much harder.
Wild life seen included: Polar Bears, Walrusses, 3 types of Whales, Reindeer, seals, Artic Foxes and many species of birds. My personal favourite was a Fin Whale [ the second largest creature on the planet ] close to the inflatable when we were trying to locate some Belugas. Sods law being on a roughish sea, I did not have camera.
One medical drama, colleague fell into crevasse and badly cut leg, 12 stitches required and performed on the glacier, surrounded by men with guns, in case smell of blood attracted the Bears.
I hope to post photos when I have sorted them out.
I am very happy to post more details of trip, but am also aware that it is easy to become a bore about holidays.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
What an amazing adventure!!! Please post lots and lots of pictures and stories about your trip - we'll let you know if we're getting bored Maybe a special thread so that if anyone has a particular aversion to ice and snow they can look away
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning All - have a great time at Bressingham. The New England asters are meant to be mildew resistant Dove - avoid the novi-belgii.
Blue sky bits can be seen here now - so they will be heading Suffolk way soon. Hope Fidget left the suncream in her bag
Quiet day today - time to chop back some of my early perennials (oriental poppies are a disgrace), and have a general tidy up before back to work tomorrow.
Also - something is eating the flower heads off my sweetpeas - leaving only the long stalk behind on the plant - anyone had anything similar ?
Welcome back Pdoc - sounds amazing. Would love to hear more .....not a trip I am ever likely to make, so to experience it "second hand" will be a real treat

Sounds as though it was really good - and yes photos would be appreciated, I think.
Dove, please excuse my ignorance, but where (and what) is Bressingham? I guess it's a large estate with an open garden For people to enjoy.
