Lesley, we buy the " perfectly ripe" brie, leave it about a fortnight past its date, then leave it out overnight before eating it. Yum. I hate cold cheese.
We do the same - and also with our local Norfolk Binham Blue and Stilton. They live on top of the garage fridge while maturing, rather than inside it And as for yoghurt, creme fraiche, cream etc - we always have the 'past sell by' stuff from the farm shop and then I'll happily use it quite a while afterwards - sniff it first - if it doesn't smell foul then I'll taste it - if it tastes ok then we use it.
It's jolly chilly here too - indoor jobs are being seen to - trying to sort out the upstairs study that has lots of the Aged P's paperwork as well as our own, then became a general dumping ground when the builders arrived.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Chilly here today to, more seed planting I think in the warm, and waiting for the ASDA man so I can make the mashed veg topping for my cottage pie and we can eat again
Later all be good.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
Cold here, but been for a lovely walk in the Botanical Gardens. Lots of flowers and sweet smells. It is amazing how far ahead of my garden things are, even though they are only 6 miles further towards the city.
Ducks still on pond, so high hopes.
Enjoy the rest of your days.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
It's warm and sunny here, lots of bees buzzing around. Been in the garden and done a bit of tidying. Need to move a couple of plants to accommodate some new purchases (pyracantha and 3 new clematis). If this garden doesn't look absolutely georgeous this summer hubby will kill me.
Might have a go at digging up the Escallonia root in a minute but having a cup of tea first.
Hope everyone is well and Bekkie I'm not going to tell you off because it would just be 'pot calling kettle black'.
Feeling shattered. Just finished a 5 hour stint of washing up at the local pub.
Now I have to cook a roast chicken dinner for me and hubby.
Hope you all have had a good day in the garden. It is glorious out.Chicken is in the oven so I am going to get a cup of coffee and wander round the garden.
Spent time in garden nd lost one of my favourite mugs - put it down somewhere but cannot find it - one of those nice big Catherine Kitson ones as well
OH has planted a lovely white chanomeles I bought the other day, looks even better now the tapes have been taken off
Slowly getting my white shrubbery done, do need some perennials for underplanting though, semi shaded, little on dry side, need to be tall but not japanese anemone if I can help it.
Also done yet more pricking out and GH shuffling. Put up some shelves today for it but had them years and are corroded, not sure if they will last until autumn
Now have an excuse to visit a GC as well - OH broke my garden spade - need new one which will have to be assessed for weight and height so obviously can't buy on-line
Matty that chanomeles is gorgeous. I can't get to view a bigger picture, my computer must be playing up.
Runnybeak, Your story about the chicken reminded me of a story my Mum told me. During the war Mum and my Gran received a chicken from Ireland from relatives. They were told to make sure they cleaned it well. They did so and found a pair of nylons stuffed inside
