Shortly going to take Mum for a flujab and asking for some tranquilisers for me
Dug the huge cannas out of the big terracotta pot today. When I planted them there were 2 reds and one yellow (but it was orange) in 3 little plastic packets from the supermarket. Now I have 2 cardboard boxes of huge roots. Had to use a garden fork to get them out of the pot. Wrapped in fleece in the garage. Pot now has bi-colour blue and yellow Morpho pansies and Cool Wave pansies in it.
Just watched "Gardens from Above" with Christine Walkden. Really enjoyed it. Wasn't a lot of "above", she visited Beth Chatto's wonderful garden and talked to Beth, who is now 91. I wrote to her when I was young and starting my garden and she wrote me a lovely letter, which seems to have got lost. Christine also went to Hyde Hall, another great garden. We'll be visiting both those when we go to East Anglia next July.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello again folks I'm back from my visit to Cambridge Uni Botanic Gardens It was lovely to see my friend from Cornwall again, lots of nattering was done and the world was put to rights. Some gentle wandering around the rock gardens, shrubberies and glass houses of the Botanic Gardens was done, the sun shone on us and a good lunch and much coffee was had. A very enjoyable day We didn't take any photos - the autumn colour was all but over and lots of beds had been cut back and were being worked on. There was an interesting fruit - Lady someone's Orange ???? I shall have to google ....
My day didn't start so well as the 9am bus didn't arrive, so I had to catch the 9.30 and change to get down to the station, however, that did mean that I could use my bus pass
The train journey to Cambridge is a lovely one with lots to see - particularly lots of rivers and woodlands, and of course the beautiful Ely cathedral. I also saw lots of wildlife, including a buzzard trying to snatch one of the flock of woodpigeons that were feasting on a farmer's oilseed rape.
The journey back took longer than it should have done, as we were held up outside Brandon by a mal-functioning level-crossing gate, so as I arrived back in Norwich about 15 minutes late the bus timetable didn't dovetail with the train - however, never one to let a good opportunity go to waste, I used the additional 45 mins to pop into M&S and buy a new nightie as well as get a coffee at Starbucks which is opposite my bus stop. Nothing if not organised.
Hopefully the Christine W programme has recorded itself for me - I'll be interested to see her view of East Anglia

Evening all. Another grey and wet day here in Sheffield. Lots of wistful staring out of windows, imagining that the rain might stop.
Spent most of the day playing Backgammon on the computer, very addictive.
KEF Ginium is the best tranquiliser I know.

Well, if I say so myself, that was a very nice dinner. Prawn risotto, with fennel, peas and pancetta, washed down with a very nice Languedoc white.
have a good evening.
