Poor LillyP's aunt - that sounds dreadful treatmentimage.

Thought we were going to get our first frost - it was very cold already when I got in last night - but the clouds must have come over, as no sign of Jack out there.

Just ordered a copy of the book of letters between Beth Chatto and Mr Lloyd - should be here by the weekend.  Have heard great things, so hope I enjoy itimage

  • Morning all,

Shocking about your aunt LillyP, hope she is feeling better.

Re Dock leaves, I read that sellotape is useful, it pulls out the stingy things but wherever possible I use a dock leaf, always works. Lots of experience of them too, so many here and so big. Like Verdun's though they are master of disguise - so sneaky.

GG you were busy, sounds very organised to me. image

BL think we got your thunder later, was very close at one point and the hibiscus I moved has definitely had a good water.

Today am going to sort out my geraniums and take the dahlias up and label them straight away, good advice Verd. image

Also looking forward to Leek & Potato soup for lunch, made it last night ready for today so get as long as possible out there, these days are getting shorter very fast. Obviously leeks & pots from the garden. image

Have a good day all. image

2.6'C on the shed roof (where our weather station lives). The caretakers roof (a nice brick building but has a really flimsy looking felt roof) looks like it has a faint frost on it although we'd be amazed if it had such good insulation!

3.7C last night .... and what an odd evening that was!  We'd just settled down to watch tv when the lights went out! There had been engineers digging up the pavement nearby earlier in the day - we looked out of the window and saw floodlights, vans, compressors and men working. OH took a torch and went and had a word - they said it would be up to 3 hours! We wondered about the frail elderly gent next door (he has carers visit regularly during the day, but it was past their last usual time) then fortunately we saw that his daughter was there - she visits regularly - so that was ok.

What to do for three hours? Playing Scrabble by torchlight didn't really appeal so we went to bed. The lights came back on around 10 o'clock and we woke up - turned things off and went back to bed - at least I got the early night that I'd planned.image

    Good morning.

Dove, I had an early night too - 8.30! Straight after son went up. But I deserved it as had given skirting boards an extra lick of paint after tea. Didn't wake until my alarm went off.

Another dry sunny day, not looking forward to temperature when I do venture out though.

Not sure what day its going to feel like today - yesterday felt like Friday all day ( a bad one at that) - not a great start to the week!

oh! Just looked out of the window - seems someones stolen all the leaves from the ash tree - im sure they were there yesterday...
  • Still lots of leaves on our ash trees - lots on the ground too - I'm waiting until they're all down before I rake them up - but I need to get some binbags for making leafmould - and some batteries for the big torch - that didn't seem too bright last night.  The small torch is a wind-up/solar powered and that was fine image

    Good morningimage

Sorry to hear what happened to your Auntie LilyP.  I hope she recovers soon.

I think I should be having more early nights.  My brain feels scrambled and I seem to flit from one thing to another very ineffectuallyimage

Leek and potato soup here as well today DD but I still have to make it.

MrsG well done with the painting.  As you're on the skirting boards does that mean you've nearly finished?

    Have a good dayimage

No no no Lesley ! It means we are ready for wallpaper! Tiles agreed. Blinds ordered. Cushions hiding in my car so OH doesn't know how much they cost! image

Ventured out out and not only do we have frost...there's ice in the wheelbarrow too. I'll be paying for my neglect come spring next year, lavenders still out, poor poor lovely brugmansia only just whisked into garage, still will need more attn.

took some photos, will put on gallery as they aren't exactly a starring role, well actually they are for me...
