    Good morningimage

I've been up for ages but have only just been able to wake the computer up.

Verdun you will definitely have to get your coat after that jokeimage  Hope Spike brings a smile to your Mum's faceimage

Dove would you consider a labradoodle?  They have been trained as guide dogs for people with allergies and they hardly shed any hair. Untrained ones can be a bit barmy thoughimage

Shame about your cat Topbird having fireworks and intruders to contend with are obviously a bit muchimage

Enjoy your lunches lily and Lizzie and have a good trip Clari.image

  • Hi Lesley - I have looked at labradoodles and a friend has one (I warned here they're loopy but did she listen??? LOL)  - however it's not the hairs that aggravate OH's chest but shed skin particles.  We'd considered very shorthaired dogs like whippets, weimeraners etc as well, but his chest reacts to them too - even when they're very well-groomed, regularly bathed etc.  He's the same with cats.  Fortunately he's ok with them in small doses - it's just living with them for any length of time - so we can visit friends and family with dogs, and he can make a fuss of dogs he meets image

If we could have a dog it would be either a working-type terrier (Patterdale/Lakeland sort of thing) or my current dream dog - a Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen image

In the past I've had labs, golden retrievers, springers, a cairn and a Jack Russell x wire-haired dachsund called Yo-yo and some Heinz 57s - loved them all.

As well as gun dogs on the farm my now Aged Ps had a corgie, Lhasa Apso and a Cavalier - not desperately keen on any of them but that's probably down to their owners' indulgent treatment of them, rather than any innate fault of the dogs.

A shame about that Dove but your Pa would probably laugh his head off at the sight of one of those anyway. (Not a proper dog)image

If only I could get rid of the image of your OH having his chest bathed and well-groomedimageimage.  Perhaps I should read through again.

  • Hello all, quick pop in for a nosy, all very interesting. Busy in the garden again this week-end OH fulfilling promise to trim high hedges as long as I clear up after him, can't argue cos I can't reach by myself. image

It's amazing how much light it has made in the garden actually, think my shady rockery patch might actually have more sunshine than I thought.

I am trying to persuade OH that a dog is a good idea, but he is not convinced, he likes dogs but the cost of one is what he is worried about, he does take his budget very seriously and a dog wasn't in it for this year. image

Anyway must dash, don't want him finding an excuse to stop work. Catch up later. image

Thanks for the get well wishes guys - have passed them on to Harry (the cat) who is skulking around with his belly so low to the floor it's dragging. Took over an hour to get him out from under the bed. He enthusiastically ate a full breakfast (after a lot of persuading to come downstairs) so I think he's feeling ok - but now won't budge from beside the boiler.

That might be because the floor is nice & warm there (if he's a bit off colour) or (more likely) because he can monitor the cat flap from a safe distance. Have put his bed there & plugged a Feliway diffuser in to help him relax. I might even go out in the rain to pick some nepeta to get him a bit high & chilled.

I don't let him stay out overnight Dove - so I don't think he was partying round your bins this morning. He was quiet when he came in at about 10pm so maybe he met his new neighbours last evening or was badly frightened by the fireworks. Lots of cuddles this afternoon I think.

I'd love a dog (miles of country footpaths round here) but it wouldn't go down well with either the cat or my OH image

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Thought I'd better come in as the robin's getting shirty with me  - I keep disturbing him when he wants to get his tea  image

Brisket in the slow cooker so not much to do for dinner. image

Dove - if you're looking I sent you  a PM - just about sticking some pond pix on if you get a chance, for a new poster who is enlarging his pond. Thought if we could put some photos on of completed ones it will help him with his ideas image

Had good lunch with son. His baby is teething and only wants his Mummy, so not very cuddly today.

On the way home we visited friend in hospital who is a lot better.

Off to watch last night's Strictly. Didn't see it last night as we were at the cinema to see the opera "Carmen", live from the New York Met. Super.
