Morning. Opposite from lily - good nights sleep and now feel awful (why does that happen?)school on strike today, mums, more HW(sons room!), prepare to cook, entertain, sleep again, job done, oh get out of bed first. have a good day all esp those with tough work days.
Think Hefty may have thought it was a Heffalump Trap
All sorts of stuff going around the edge, there are already ferns, vincas, pulmonaria creeping campanula etc - at the back a tiny thicket of coppiced hazel is planned, and some sedges will find there way there too
The planting is going to go right down to the water's edge except where the pebbly gravelly beach is going.
I've got some biggish holey stones that originally came from the North Norfolk beach (appropriated by my gardening Granny back in the early 60s when people could take stones from the beach) these stones went from Granny's garden to Ma's garden and now to mine. I've also bought some biggish pebbles which will go with them to provide perches for bathing birds with short legs etc.
The builders are out there now, cutting back the liner
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all just a quick hey to you all v v v busy at work as we have a trial coming up booooo sooooooo much paperwork involved it's mad!!! I reckon I have single handed ly used at least 10 trees ....... Mad. Dove pond looks Ab Fab, right paperwork I will master u ..... Laters peeps
Dove your pond sounds amazing! I'm hoping to be able to afford the timber to finish off the outside of my pond next month so that I can then add some more plants (we've blanket weed already! Grr...) And start work on making it wild life friendly. I'm thinking of using pebbles inside but haven't worked out how to make the outside friendly without distracting from the overall look.
I went to the supermarket on Monday to shop for my severely restricted diet (medical problems - no bikini diets going on here). Oh my goodness the price of fresh fruit and veg when that's all you can eat (aka I can't bulk it out with a nice piece of steak) is insane!! It's given me a much needed kick up the rump to get my vegetable garden finished so that I can start growing my own fruits and veg in season and hopefully eventually get a bit of a glut to freeze / preserve for out of season treats that wont be breaking my bank account. I'm already trying to work out if I can fit a small chest freezer in my "lady lair" (think of it as a ManCave but with the washing machine & tumble drier in!) but perhaps that's running before I can walk!
Clarington, you can grow leaves to crop continuously quite easy. I reckon we had £50 worth last year out of a mini growhouse.
I work that out that a bag of salad leaves is at least £1. You open it, use some, the rest go slimy and you throw it away. Pick your own is fresher, you only pick what you need at the time, and the nutrient content is higher. We should be cutting new leaves from these trays next week. They were sown 10 days ago.
It's the easiest way of growing salad crops. I do it every year - costs practically nothing and they need virtually no maintenance. One daughter only likes the red oak leaf lettuce so having a mix means we can all have the stuff we like! Nothing better than making a sandwich and just going out the back door with a pair of scissors. Quick rinse under the tap and onto the sarnie.
You won't regret it Clari
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
