I love wallflowers, they are so easy to do from cuttings, next year you can take lots more and have plants forever,   After a couple of years they get leggy and woody so cuttings are the way to go. Fresh plants every year. I planted mine out yesterday, chopped the flowers off and the rain will bring them on. Roll on Spring.

Pdoc - great to see your Mum has regained some of her sight, and some of her spirit too. Really exciting news about your expedition - what an exciting way to use your skillsimage.  Looking forward to hearing all about it, and all the build up too.

Wouldn't want UKIP in power or indeed the Lib Dems, but do think they stop the excesses of both the Tories and Labour.

In my experience gardeners would make the best politicians, they make plans for the future, accept failure and try again, communicate with others ( this forum a prime example) and share their knowledge and produce.

Interesting idea AWB. We had a tradition that when you turned 16 a friend gave you a plant - "congratulations you're now of age. But before you let anyone near your panties remember that with fun comes responsibility. If you can't keep this plant alive don't think you can cope with bringing up a baby!!" My aloe vera plant eventually went to live with my godmother as I wasn't sure it would survive the move to Yorkshire. I'm curious if anyone of the others survived!
