Its been dry here all day, so I got the last of the new bulbs in. Only trouble is I dug up a load of old ones. Some years ago, I planted some globemaster alliums. Three were deep at the back of the border, and three were shallower. The shallow ones have made large clusters of bulbs, which i then washed off  and separated. The deep ones have only split into two, but they are as large as my fist.. I've planted a lot of the larger ones. The small ones I'm going to line out in the veg patch. If they flower next year I will cut them for the house.

Fingers crossed for you on Tuesday, Stacey.

I found the label on the tall yellow Thalictrum. Something totally unpronouncable, I will post on seed thread tomorrow.

We had the first frost last night. The courgettes finally collapsed.

     Have a good evening everyone.

I have my packets / envelopes in big paper bags depending on what they are. They then go in plastic box under the stairs.

I categorise as Veg. Salad. Greenhouse crops( toms, cumbers, chillies). Flowers. Plus old tablet bottles containing seeds I've collected. I've started a book page per category with full details of what they are and sow by dates. Later I'll make notes in it to remind me when I should sew each of them.

Much easier, I hope, than keep looking at all the packets.

  • Just phoned parents' care home - Pa is none the worse for his adventure - he choked on a marshmallow - carer got him back doing chest compression - paramedics said he was ok and didn't need admitting but NO MORE MARSHMALLOWS!!!  no sweeties whatsoever any more image  poor chap has to have thickener in his single malt image .... now no more fudge .....not a lot of fun for a chap of nearly 94.  Still, he survived WW2, can't have him wiped out  by a marshmallow can we???

Does anyone want to sort my seeds?

  • It's his swallow function that's the problem Verdun, it doesn't work in sync.  His favourite sweeties are fudge, but Ma said he was allowed Marshmallows and he wanted to try them so I got him some - not again, and now they're saying he's not allowed fudge either. image  Still, that means there's more left in the world for the rest of us image

    Hope your mother's keeping well.

  • Oh Dove, I hope your  pa feels better soon, must have been very frightening for him.

  • My brother lives closer so he's been to see him and says he's fine, but his voice is a bit faint (unsurprisingly). He and Ma were watching tv this afternoon as usual.  The carers said they'll get them to bed a bit early so they have a good night's sleep and then they'll be up bright and early for the parade tomorrow.   Bless him, he's been at death's door and we've said goodbye several times, spent his 90th birthday in a coma due to mis-prescribed medication image, and we've had 'that conversation' with the GP several times when he's had chest infections and pneumonia etc, but he always rallies - GP says he's got the constitution of an ox.
