Back from course, which was quite good and even better finished at lunchtime. Trip to GC ended up with some little dears jumping into my passenger footwell!
Chaenomeles nivali £3.50, white flowers, spiney, already 2' tall, will go nicely against sunny fence and be useful to prick any pricks who try and climb over (am I allowed to say that?)
Also 3 poor dried up clematises for £2 each but why didn't I go to morrisons for healthy ones at £2 each? 1,felt 'sorry' for them, 2. wanted a 'challenge', 3. they do have some growth and potential, 4. 2 I had chosen anyway from Taylors website 5. and the most likely reason - I've gone mad!
The president, Montana Tetrarose and Snow Queen.
So that's now a total of 10 climbers in the last couple of weeks! Have chosen mostly vigorous clematises, so my 3 arches will be swamped! No really, not all will go on the arches - at least 2 have different places to go...
Well, it's still a reasonable day here, windy but not overly so and no more than a light 10 minute drizzle so far.
Oh yes, what plant food would you recommend for these lot to get going? Thanks.
Thanks Lily, if she ever does it again I'll send her via parcel post.
MrsGarden, I'll have to look some of them up. Re: getting them going, in the past when planting stuff out if I haven't had my own compost I've incorporated some multi p in the digging hole ( we have clay) & some Growmore, making sure G isn't in contact with roots. This year anything new will have BFB dug in rather than Growmore. Had always been a tad worried about that regarding CJD, but have read enough recently to feel okay with it, but will wear gloves and not use on a windy day. I know we should always wear gloves, but I'm a muck monster.
Had a few large blobs of rain (that's all) and very windy, we are quite open to winds, little Fatsia Japonica has been blown over and pot cracked, but no worries he's due to be re-located soon. Dare I say ? parts of this garden needs some gentle rain, due to clay baking and then drying out, so cracks appearing.
Fairy very sorry to ask for some rain, send some here via wand.
I decided to shift a barrow load of muck. Backing up a full barrow, my hands slipped and I went over backwards. Cracked a plastic bucket with my head!!. Good job they're not the old galvanised sort. Memo to OH. The new barrow needs some non slip handles. The wind has decapitated by new double yellow hellebore. The main stem snapped off at the base. It was setting seed as well. I've put it in a vase in the house, but it makes an awfully expensive cut flower. I hope the root will send up some new leaves and then reflower next year.
So now i've come in. I'll read a book I think, its safer.
Hi Matt, glad it's not only me that needs some gentle! rain. I'm same with GH hardly room for me to get in. Good isn't it ? Don't have any Cannas, did once, loved them but forgot to dig them up
Fidget hope are really okay and not just being "tough". Not good to fall backwards and hit your head, hugs. Hope SV already chilled. Is OH home, or still away ? Lot of stuff here blowing about, pots wedged with stones etc. They don't matter wounded gardener's do.

Very windy here now and very cold. Heating on!

What a lovely morning it was here, horrible now though.
Can't complain as we need some rain (never thought I'd say that)
Washed out all my pots and trays and built up a potting bench.
I'll have to take some photos of inside the greenhouse, it's so full already!
I have way too many canna's, the tuber I used last year just got stupidly big so I had to split it into about 10 plants.
