Morning everyone, I quite like spiders, but both my children hated them all started when first born woke with one lying next to her on the pillow at eye level. I'm sure I read that you put conkers in the corners of the room. I have no idea if it works, I like to encourage them as the eat all the things Im not keen on being in the house such as flies. When we had dogs they used to chase them across the floor and eat them and my daughters cats were partial to a spider or two. You may have seen my post about 'little brown mouse' on another thread. Well I have temporarily won the battle. Hubby will leave it alone for now providing I dont feed the ground birds, which is a bit of a shame really as I have just taken delivery of a ground feeding cage, never mind to keep my half of the bargain I will send it back. The weather is quite grey here this morning and we are expecting rain again. The Beeb originally said sunday was going to be glorious but are changing their minds now Hope everyone is fine, just popping round to see mum and Ill catch up with you all later.
Yvie - I think if you're just careful about not leaving excess food on the ground at night, mice aren't a huge problem - especially once it gets colder and other food sources are scarce. Having said that, my last house was quite rural and they had a run between the original part of the house and the new extension which went through to the electrics cupboard...not too handy. They were living under a piece of decking just outside the windows and that's also where we had a feeder so they used to nick in and out during the day - the little b******! The new bit was also the master bedroom so we could hear them at night running through the wall en route to the cupboard....
Several night of setting traps though.... problem solved

Hi Fairygirl, I think Im going to just feed from the feeder station, the birds will just have to get a bit more agile. Little brown mouse was with us last year. He spent the winter living in my shed and chewed up all my gardening gloves and lived of a spare bag of bird seed. We had a spring clean and now I keep all my bird food in a spare dustbin with a clip down lid. I dont really mind him living in the shed Ill just make sure there is nothing valuable for him to nibble. I think Ill leave my lovely pink brolly outside in a cover, Im afraid if he nibbles that he definitely will be for the chop. Hubby said we should get a cat but second born has a cat allergy and couldnt come round, for some reason hubby saw that as a positive not a negative!!!! Despite the grey start weather has been OK so far and Ive just taken down my sweetpeas. They had sucumbed to mildew and I had cut back fed and watered but they still werent happy. Never mind they started to flower reallly early this year so I have had a good run for my money.
Am off out in a bit, off to the cinema in London Town to see Pretty in Pink It's a groovy cinema that shows all sorts of odd things. Apparently we have a free beer with our ticket
Hope you've all had a good day. Can't believe you've just three days left Lily
doc I had a car problem a few weeks ago and I totally agree - the faffing about waiting for them etc. I had taken the girls out for dinner so just waited till I got home rather than hang about the restaurant with them - indicator had stuck on and wouldn't go off. In the end it needed a new unit but by the time AA came out it was almost 10pm etc etc. The guy was great but the AA were very pedantic about everything. Someone else had to come out and take the car the following day because they wouldn't let him take it there and then without charging storage for it at the garage overnight.
Yvie - I'm like fidget - live and let live outdoors but coming in's a different matter! I had one in my shed over winter. Didn't know he was there till I saw the marks on the inside of the door - nothing for him to eat in there apart from grass seed that he couldn't get into. Found him when I cleared out a little bucket...
Got a lot done outside as it cleared up - a washing out as well - but off to hairdresser now with youngest fairy for her 'return to school' haircut and my eyebrows waxed. I start to look the Gallagher brothers (both of them) if I leave it too long. Could see it far enough

We have a wood mouse and a bank vole living under the back doorstep. Not a natural partnership.
They nip out and find bird seed the green finches chuck out of the hanging feeders. They dont cause any trouble.
The bird food is in hoppers in the kitchen, because they chewed through the plastic containers in the garage.
If they come in the house they will get traps. I live and let live outside.

Great film Panda. Love the soundtrack too. Psychedelic Furs.
Well what a waste of my time that has been. 2 hours waiting for the AA, then another 3 hours waiting at the garage.
I love doing nothing, in fact I regard myself as a bit of an expert, but somehow wasting time like this is just irritating.
In terms of wild life, the mole is winning, another 4 holes overnight.
Hope you are all having a better day than me.

Well punkdoc it's not difficult to have a day better than yours. Never mind perhaps when you get home Mr Mole will have decided to move house.
