Nut, how are your Angelica gigas growing? Mine grew green stemmed leaves last year, but the new shoots are coming up with red stems on. They should all flower this year( 4 plants).
What to put in the gap for next year?(about a metre sq)
On my early morning wander round the garden, I saw very clear signs of my first ever trillium popping up in a shady bed. I bought it at Harrogate autumn show as a small sliver of root. I am very excited about this as I have always loved seeing them at Inverewe gardens in the highlands.
Meconopsis are now clearly showing new leaves, which means double excitement here. I have had a small colony for a few years now, but each year I expect them to have disappeared, as I dont think that Sheffield is an ideal location. As a precaution I sow more seeds each winter.
Have a lovely day everyone.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Hurrumph, I decided to make today a housework day 'cos the skies were overcast and grey - now I've started turning the bedroom out what's happened??? Blue skies and bright sunshine, that's what's happened Still, it'll get the washing dry I suppose
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Overcast here too, but i don't mind as I'm just digging over a weed infested bed (nettles, docks etc). Its my gardening morning while the little peas are at preschool. A nice builder chap has turned up to lay a path too, so all is good
Really want to get all this digging and weeding done. Seems a bit never ending at the moment. I'm desperate to get all the plants in that I have been accumulating from the garden centre, but I know from experience what happens if you plant stuff without clearing it out properly first.
Coffee break here while bread dough is kneading in the Kenwood. Podd - I know what you mean - I've got loads of plants in pots waiting to go in, but I need to make planting pockets of good soil in amongst the tree roots - if it's not the roots from the big ash trees (which we like) then it's the roots left behind from the removed conifers

Morning all, dull but not cold here.

Pdoc, think my meconopsis is dead, no new growth.
Might have root around in the pot.
Dove, I'll have your sun if you don't need it. Dull and chilly here.
Getting ready to go to Wilko, few things needed.
verd, thanks for the supply of smileys. Miscanthus looking ok. Out of GH now, thank you.
Panda , no lottery win here either and snap no ticket bought!
Reminds me, back to work.

Right, tea break over, back to it!

Didn't win either, Verdun and Panda, but then I didn't buy a ticket,
Weeded front garden, trimmed hygranga. Also trimmed Jasmine......well.....err.....got a bit carried away
......hope I haven't taken too much off..
Time for a cuppa and then carry on
Ps suns gone in here too.
Three buddlejas and two roses on the front cut down (murdered). A lump of Phlomis russeliana dug up, and a chunk off an orange hemerocallis.
Cuttings made from rose prunings. I may accidentally line them out in the bulldozered bit next door.
Coffee break over, buddlejas in old orchard next door to hack down now....
