Blossom end rot isn't a disease it's a disorder from lack of water of irregular watering so it's not catching. Some of the first courgettes always fall off or go brown at the ends then they romp away. My cucumbers never do very well. Strawberries are best in the second year, but need netting against birds. My OH mowed down my young pear tree, didn't even notice it in the grass! But when it all works it's great!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Thanks Lizzie, if I get some spuds tomorrow I'll be a bit happier, big boy will be back from his silver DoE expeditions and I've told him we should have new potatoes
OL don't panic! I may well have been wrong - it's not unknown I've only very rarely had Blossom End Rot (well, my toms, not me ) - it doesn't look like what mine had but fingers are crossed - I can't see any blight on the picture of your tom plant so I probably am wrong!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good morning Verdun - that sounds like a gorgeous view you have there
From the forecast it looks as if we're in for a humid day with showers and thunderstorms - I shall try to pop out between them and plant the new additions to the front border and do some deadheading.
The lawns could do with mowing, but I don't think it's going to be dry enough. They'll have to wait until later in the week as I'm visiting Aged Ps tomorrow.

sorry to hear your veg not doing great ol,but it is your first year isn't it? my courgettes are ok , very small but tasty, no tomatoes yet, just a couple of pea sized green blobs, though haven't really been giving it proper attention, strawberries same, am i roght in thinking if i plant runners i will make more plants?should i cut stem or just bury a bit? where new leaves are?
Morning all drizzly here ( perfect for hampton!!!!) chicky you asked what I thought of the gardens and to be honest most left me cold this year!!! It was all very style over substance..... I did love the Jordan's garden and bizarrely the wrath garden o thought the planting was amazing. I loved the Canadian window garden in the conceptual area I believe she only had £7000 to build it with and despite disliking it on the tv loved the one show garden!!! But here's my gripe they have been banging on about getting more kids interested in gardening and how we have to encourage the children ..... but a. Not one garden showed a garden shared with children!!! Plus there is nothing at all ( apart from a small tent at the other end of the show offering face painting) for children to do at these shows. The crowds are so horrendous I wouldn't take my lo..... Last year there was a carnival atmosphere this year it felt like ££££££ was the focus..... My friend reckons that I should combine a load of you on here to join me and design and do a garden
