"intelligent and entertaining TV" with Monty Don as presenter? I don't think so.
Last time he presented it the programme was so deadly dull that it was more interesting to watch the test card.
As so many have pointed out here, GW is (or was) a programme for gardeners - not for people who want to watch B list 'celebrities' like Don, who doesn't have the proper gardening background that previous presenters have had. If you want programmes like that, why not watch Richard and Judy, Oprah Winfrey or something of that ilk?
The BBC needs a proper gardening programme - and you don't get that with Monty Don at the helm.
Best news of the year that Monty is returning to Gardener's World. In his absence the programme has stepped 30 years. Loved seeing Carol's recent series and hope she will play a well-deserved key role in the coming G.W. Welcome back Monty and I won't be shedding any tears at Toby Buckland's going.

I am so happy that I can watch Gardeners World again, we all have different opinions but for me Monty is magic! He manages to make the programme special and very best wishes for his return.
Wish it was still Alan Titchmarsh. Toby grew on me but Monty? no sorry not for me at all, won't be watching it again until we have a new presenter who knows what he/she is doing.
Very sad to see Toby gone, what a shame, i was learning from him. Won't be learning anything now (i didn't before under Montys instruction) so won't bother watching Gardeners World from now on. Won't bother with the magazine either.
I can't believe Gardeners World would take such a backward step, Toby was so refreshing. I'm sure he would encourage a younger generation to get interested in the garden, unlike Monty. I stopped watching after one series of Monty and after a refreshing couple of years i will stop again.
Great news that Monty is back to Gardeners World. I was very sad to hear of his departing back in 2008 as he was so passionate about gardening, but glad to hear of his return. It's a shame that Alyss Fowler won't be returning as she was down to earth and passionate too. And I would be interested to know what's to happen with Greenacres concidering it was created from a blank field. Looking forward to the new series starting though to get my weekly gardening fix.
Sad news to hear that Toby has been taken off Gardeners World and also that Monty Don is back on. I find him very confusing to watch & to listen to regarding learning from him-struggled before when he fronted the show, won't bother this time, too much like hard work, no pleasure. Cancelled gardeners world mag as well as he will prob be main man in that.
in my view Monty has been one of the best presenters gardeners world has ever had and a real nice guy as well. but what about Carrol Klein she has been fantastic for gardeners world but to be honest i smell a rat i believe Toby buckland as been used as a scapegoat, maybe they should have changed the structure of the program before the presenters it was obvious from day 1 there was a problem.
