Yes, Chicky. One of my jobs at the Botanic Garden where I was a volunteer gardener for six years was to weed out the seedlings round the acers of which there were hundreds. I asked if I could take a few home as they were just being put in the compost and was given permission. all five grew. I had chosen ones which seemed to have different leaves but the results have been beyond my expectations.
Thanks....I slipped up slightly, the last pic (in all its autumn glory) wasn't the previous one I posted and really is not such a good/clear shot same acer though.
Brumball - No dead stuff in there, what seems to be, are support sticks.

There we go!
David fantastic colours, too windy here for Acers. I envy you.
Can't grow acers here either, hot summers, windy, cold winters and limestone.
What gorgeous colours acers are.
My baby acers are still hanging on to their leaves despite another very windy weekend in Bristol.
