What an inspirational transformation @Plantminded I wouldn’t be as brave to paint fence black but I can see in your garden it totally works! Your garden is very beautiful
Thank you @Oliya, that's very kind. Â It took me a couple of years to take that step with the paint! Here's the other side of that area in August last year. There's a black bench there now too!
Thank you @greatnorthernexotic. Your garden transformation is exceptional, well done! I would like to be able to grow more exotics here but the split level garden and my neighbour's 12 foot laurel hedge means I have very limited sunny space!
@greatnorthernexotic - crazy cool transformation - such a lot of work! What a success!
Thank you @Fire - certainly doesn't look like that at the minute! One of the downsides of going for the tropical / exotic look is that most of the garden either dies back to the ground or is wrapped in fleece from November to April. Last year I began to put in an evergreen backbone of winter hardy plants to complement the summer colour: trachycarpus, fargesia bamboos, fatsias, cordylines etc.
But it's worth it!

Here's my transformation so far. I inherited a blank canvas in August 2019. Second picture is August 2023. (both from roughly the same viewpoint)
Last year I also reclaimed more lawn and turned it into an arid / desert bed.
