I am not exactly sympathetic towards cattle-farming, @Stulti. The chopping down of the Amazon Rainforest for cattle-farming is unforgivable in my opinion. Could this be the right time to phase out rearing animals for food? I think so, but I am in the minority I know. Engineering lab-grown meat could be a big way forward for those who wish to eat it, phasing out the need to rear and kill animals on this industrial-scale (or at all).

"Humans are inherently selfish so there is no point in trying to improve our situation"
"My individual action will not shift the whole world so I won't make any effort as there is no point"
They are standard lazy arguments rolled out. The species have creative thinking, capacity to learn and innovate, shared societies and co-operation able to work together to improve things.
Communism doesn't work because it is about control of the masses, not equality.
Capitalism can work better than it currently does though. Amazon is a very profitable business. The workers could have been treated fairly and it would still be very profitable. So why not insist on that, through employment laws, etc? Most of its profits now come from its cloud services, which use a colossal about of electricity, water, land space, etc. It is paying no penalty for this profligate use of resources. That could be factored into the tax system. (And why are we keeping all this data anyway? Why does every email ever written, every ebay listing ever created, every cat video ever filmed, etc, need to exist till the end of time?)
There has been a fair amount of research showing societies that are more equitable have less crime, better mental health, and so on. My point is why not compare countries on this instead of endlessly banging on about GDP and growth, which is a road to nowhere except more wealth for the already wealthy?

I don't know what to do. Stay living in an urban environment? Or try to move to somewhere rural. I am having sleepless nights.
Pros and cons I suppose. Just feel exhausted by world events.
