Be prepared for the metal detectors setting the security alarms off, @KT53!

Splendid news, @KT53! 👍  Caribbean cruise it is then! 😁

Cruise!?  Not in a million years.  The thought of being cooped up in a limited space with hundreds or thousands of other people is not something I want to even contemplate.

Absolutely.  Me with my metal hip and 'her indoors' with enough metalwork to rebuild the Forth Bridge..... :D

Great news @KT53.   Well done to your better half and now I hope you can both relax a bit.

Me neither! 😁  Someone once described cruises as "imprisonment, with the added disadvantage you might drown".  😂

Well, I’d love to be on a cruise! I find them a really relaxing holiday option. For us, they are a moving hotel, I love waking up in a different place each morning, with the option of a leisurely stroll ashore. Love the views from the balcony, and a brisk walk round the promenade or the upper decks.
We do avoid the mega ships, the casino, the music venues and the ‘formal’ dining room palaver. Packing is a dream, no luggage restrictions, I can sling a pile of books in the case, or an extra pair of shoes, and I don’t have to worry about the 100ml liquids rules.

OH and I have very different tastes in food, so we head to the buffet when it’s quietest, and can each choose what looks most appealing - not unlike many traditional Greek restaurants! And I can enjoy a couple of glasses of wine, with only a short walk back to our room.
All pretty tame compared with our past adventures exploring Europe and the USA, but so stress free!

I've never tried one but they always seemed like Butlins full sentence with no parole. My ideal holiday is somewhere just warm enough and no people.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

What really makes me laugh about cruises is the adverts where there are about 3 people sat by the pool and no queues for anything.  Friends went on a cruise and were told on one day that the time for their evening meal and the time for the show was the same.  When they queried it they were basically told 'tough, you'll have to decide which you miss out on!'   Hopefully that's not typical of the attitude but it put them off ever doing another.

Certainly there seem to be cruisers who love the opportunity to drink all day, mix with lots of new people, and indulge in what they consider to be ‘gourmet ‘ food that’s all been loaded on board before setting sail. And some do sound like Butlins at sea or worse.
But we are picky about the ship, it’s size and facilities, and very picky on which cabin we choose. We don’t really mix with the other passengers, and manage to find plenty of peace and quiet to chill out for a week. Wouldn’t appeal to everyone, but then we’ve never enjoyed beach holidays, and prefer to head north rather than south. I don’t enjoy hot weather.
