Hubby and I took the tree down yesterday. Sweetie pie the cat had been most annoyed the tree didn't fit in it's usual place in the hall so it had to go in her favourite bird watching spot in the kitchen window.
Just packing away the decorations. Forgot to post a pic of my ‘fruit bowl’. One year I bought some fake ‘crystallised’ fruit decorations, but I had no room for them on the tree this year. I was quite pleased with the effect. The wooden black grapes came from a market in Germany.
I bought a 'snow covered ' artificial tree, 3yrs ago. This year I noticed a damp smell even though it's been stored the same way as in previous years; dismantled, in a cardboard box, sealed and put in the loft which isn't damp. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell and how to store it to prevent it happening again? I don't want to throw it away but can't bear the thought of the smell again next year.
@TigerFeet, no idea what might have caused the smell. However, if it was my tree, I’d consider vacuuming the ‘snow’ in case that’s the source of the smell - you can always add more snow from a can in the future. Then, if you have somewhere dry, I’d put it outside to air for as long as practical, and see if it still smells. I store mine in its cardboard box, but the box then wrapped in bin bags.
If you want to mask the damp smell, try packing it away with some washing machine powder wrapped in a piece of 100% cotton fabric. Then, next yr, it will smell of that. I have done this with an artificial tree and it worked pretty well. I also do this with old sheet music in an airtight box. 👍
