Interesting article but was sorry to read that he could be going onto pastures new within the next five years. GW won't be the same without him.

    Thank you, Kili.
  • Thanks @Kili. I think Monty comes over as a complex character, and a decent human being. I have really enjoyed those documentaries he has made, travelling the world looking at different gardens and gardening traditions. It would be great to think he could do more documentaries and maybe various other gardening-related pieces of TV, away from the nitty-gritty of hands in the soil 'gardening' (GW).

I am not sure I quite understand his comments on rewinding and on guerrilla gardening, but I would be happy to learn more.

    He doesn't understand them.

I didn't know Nell had died. She seemed like a beautiful dog.
  • He's got to sell the book 🤣 but yes comes across very well and frankly I like his understanding that the time for wealthy white guys to front the flagship BBC gardening programme is rapidly passing. It takes a lot of lack of ego to say that openly in an interview by definition is there to puff your ego.

And I agree @clematisdorset his documentaries have been some of the most enjoyable things he's presented that I've watched over the years. So indeed hope he has some more ideas and time to see them through.

A bit of a subtle difference between not agreeing and not understanding perhaps...

From what he has written about rewilding this year, I don't think he has the first clue. He associates rewilding with abandonment. I think he has visited some small garden that got covered in brambles and took against the idea.  If he visited some of the 30 year old + projects around the UK, he would see the vast benefits and the deep care that goes into the land. Cairngorms Connect is a 200 year project over 600 square km. The Carthanians has a project of one million hectares.

My hope is hope that he will do some documentaries on rewilding next year. He has been invited.
