  • That looks drastic! I wonder if I should plant earlier than planned,  some tulips this week. Would a frost prevent tulip fire taking hold does anyone know?

In the south of the UK it really does look just like a brief snap - just a few days/nights. The temps bounce back up again and look pretty normal for the time of year, if the forecast is right.

Consistently colder weather makes Tulip fire less likely, which is why later planting is recommended.

  • Thanks for explaining, @fire & @punkdoc. I will wait for more consistently cold temperatures in November or December.

I will certainly try and get some of my Dahlias and Cannas lifted, before I go into hospital again.

💡 go out and pick all your dahlia flowers for the house before the cold snap 🌸

Late for us - first frosts are usually much earlier. Much nicer and healthier than this wet warm stuff.
    Bring it on....

The BBC forecast is saying minimum night temperatures of +1C over the weekend and into next week, but the Met Office and Netweather are both saying +4C. Not terrible either way but I must bring in what's left of the tomatoes later today or tomorrow, and pick some dahlias for the house if I have time (thanks for the idea @Dovefromabove ).
My new bulbs are due for delivery so I just want it dry over the weekend so I can get outside and plant them. Most will be going in pots to grow on for spring planting when I can see where the gaps are.

Yesterday, I moved my lemon tree to my quite bright integral garage.  It has filled the garage with scent.
