  • I do not care whether it is sweet or savoury or whether it is a pie or tart, I just love them all. I cannot choose a favourite, they are all delicious.
Likewise, I have been waiting for an inane comment, criticism, or correction but it has gone very quiet on the Western front.
    What a relief.
I have enjoyed seeing the handiwork of some very accomplished cooks. Congratulations everyone.

I did wonder if the "correct" answer was pumpkin pie, but it's not Thanksgiving in the US for several more weeks. I've never tried it but I've seen recipes - looks like an egg custard tart with added pumpkin puree so I think I'll stick with the pumpkin-free version.

@JennyJ IMO pumpkin pie is disgusting - nasty taste and nasty texture.  Yuk!

I must admit it doesn't look appealing @Obelixx . Something about that particular combination of colour and texture.......

  • Wife likes it, but I'm fussy!!
  • Did anyone else have gypsy tart (don't know if that's its real name or what we called it) at school? It had a pastry case, a layer of some sort of dark syrupy stuff and a thick layer of a type of light brown mousse. Much too sugary to be giving to children in the 5-9 age range😂

I remember Gypsy Tart … think it was mainly condensed milk and black treacle!

We had pumpkin pie several times af Thanksgiving suppers at the homes of various  American friends … I remember one version being topped with toasted marshmallows.

Gypsy tart was (is?) a popular dish in Kent.

No @februarysgirl but I did look it u once and it's made with condensed milk which is also used, cooked, as the base in a banoffie pie which explains the excess sweetness.

I can't think the sugar rush would be good for young kids altho they'd still have had their lunch break to run a lot of it off.
