Morning all,Ā grey and damp here. Some heavy rain last night but nothing compared to what's happening up country.Ā Hope everyone is OK. I have dentist again this morning,Ā only a small filling this time hopefully last for a while.Ā I always thought eucalyptus was would be pretty drought tolerant, considering where it grows in Oz. I do know it's pretty shallow rooted though.Ā Ā
The saga of the new radiator continues. The new instructions bear no resemblance to the actual measurements, and are completely useless. Poor OH was awake in the night looking for useful reviews / comments. One very useful bit of information gleaned was that the radiator has to be installed one way up, but nothing in the instructions about that, and nothing on the radiator to indicate which of the identical ends is the top! At least we now have the information needed to work it out for ourselves, but it looks as if several customers have been caught out. Ā Nothing is ever straightforward here. If itās not the fixtures and fittings, itās something unexpected in the actual building construction, or botched work by a previous owner. When we moved from our previous house, three foot thick stone walls and every new curtain rail was a battle to install, we were looking forward to nice easy brick walls and the like. Haha!
Hope this rain isn't having too adverse an effect on my fellow Forkers!
I'm down to do a stewarding shift this afternoon at an exhibition currently on in the large church in the centre of town.Ā So that will be a look around the exhibition and then sitting around until the end of the day.Ā Don't expect to see many visitors - if any!
Feeling a bit grumpy today - although I do get lots of lovely comments from people for what I do in this town, there are always one or two that like to question the way I do things but don't actually do anything themselves.
Possibly the worst rain we have experienced since moving to this house, stream flooded by first light and the garden is now a lake, getting a bit worried how much worse it will get. Stay safe everyone.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Ā Ā Ā Ā Re Eucalypts. Itās hard to give a general answer. Ā There are so many species and varieties. And, donāt forget we have climate zones ranging from snowy mountains, tropical and cooler coastal zones to dry hot deserts and there are species in all areas. Ā Can I recommend a reference book that I have which is 3cm thick. You might be able to find it on line. Ā I suggest that if they know the species, to look that up.Ā
Eucalpts a celebration. Ā By John Wrigley and Murray Fagg. Ā
Hello all, I have been watching your weather forecasts, very grim indeed. We had our first good rainfall in weeks last night and it's very chilly today. Son sent a video of the sea lapping the end of his road, while my daughter is sunning herself on holiday in Rhodes! Two extremes.Ā Take care everyone.
It's been tipping with rain in Dordogne and it's very windy.
Yesterday I finished stacking the logs, back aches a bit. OH started helping but it made his back ache. Rather a rubbishy load, full of bark, dust and logs of all different sizes.
I was expecting a delivery today, my new kitchen island. I need more worksurface and drawers and cupboards. The kitchen is a decent size but the way it is, eg ancient stone sink, obsolete, below the window, large opening to dining area etc means can't add more cupboards. Anyway, the delivery will be late, probably next week.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hope your house stays dry @punkdoc we have friends near CarnoustieĀ (just a bit north of Dundee for those not familiar). They are actually OK at the moment,Ā garden flooded but house is dry. They recon they had worse rainĀ 2 weeks ago . Fingers crossed for all in the danger zone š¤ On the eucalyptus front I wasn't doubting what was said just surprised at first, but thinking about it more widely, as I said IĀ know that they can be very shallow rooted.Ā One of my Cypriot friends at the Allotments talks about trees in the UK being "lazy"Ā with shallow roots, presumably when water is normally plentiful the tree won't waste energy growing deep roots.

Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
