She's getting the idea! Very pleased to see my newish Ghislaine de Feligord throwing out the first new long shoot, through the trellis and towards the rope swag as intended. 1st pic north side of the trellis, 2nd pic south facing side. Atta girl!
Such a healthy vigorous rose Lizzie 27, hope it does well for you. Mine needs more control, it is over 10ft in most directions Given the dire warnings of rain which will be most welcome after over 2 weeks without I just took some pictures of roses on the balcony that have really enjoyed the warm dry weather recently. Shame many of the buds will spoil. The Feminine TouchAnniversary Rose and Gruss an AachenMarie Pavie
My rose pest and diseases report this year is that it was a bad year for Mildew and Rust, average for Blackspot but absolutely great for the lack of sawflys and rose slugs, barely any. No deer or other munchers either.
Thanks @Tack, luckily I've got 10ft or more in both directions for my Gdf! Can't wait till next year when she really gets going. Hoping to cover that awful breeze block retaining wall.
Interestingly, I've had no Mildew or Rust on my roses, but black spot has been bad on most and sawfly annoying on some.
Oops - checked the weather forecast and we are heading for our first frost this weekend.
So that's me next week taking up the Dahlias and bringing in the Cannas, Pelegoniums and Agapanthus, not forgetting the wooden garden furniture. Then into bulb planting and then READY for bare root rose planting - YAY.
Thank you, @purplerallim, @WAMS, @Nollie and @Athelas! Quite a relief knowing I dont have to worry about roses too much. I went a bit overboard with my rose purchases this year so I've got LOTS of pots...
Bareroot despatch messages from both Trevor White and Austins. I'M NOT READY!!!
Welling Roses on FB are taking orders currently. I have hopefully ordered Eisvogel/Kingfisher. Got John Paul II from them last winter and it's been superb.
The fragrant Ingenious Mr Fairchild... one of my best bloomers this year. Hope year two is as productive! Forever Royal Dahlia Rhubarb and Cosmos with one monster cosmos behind Fisherman's Friend Penelope Lively... on steroids seemingly
Apart from a few regular culprits and one shockingly bad new one (Roald Dahl) I’ve had the least blackspot ever this year. It’s been a very hot dry summer though with a lot of crispy fried roses. Unfortunately the heat seems to have suited the pests!
Harlow Carr enjoying a late flush:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
