Glorious day here but I feel for those under the rain warning. Seems such an extreme in the UK today, bizarre. I was tidying my spring bulb pots and usually at this stage there is nothing when I tip the dry soil out, today it looks like I have lost no bulbs at all and they all had strong root systems and shoots, some above the surface. So instead of rose work I have been planting some of them carefully into the new bed. Thank goodness I haven't bought more this year.
Thought I'd share the Frilly Cuff pot. It has not grown above a foot high but bloomed well, some mildew.
Apologies everyone, but I have just accidently added a post to the deleted rose thread. Could some kind person move it over here as I have no idea how to do it. Thanking you kindly.
I've recently done that. Dig out a big square hole a bit bigger than a cardboard box about 30cms wide and deep. I bought one from Peter Beales when I bought my new rose. Then use a mix of new topsoil and John Innes 3 or JI 2 to fill the box and the rest of the hole around the box, planting your rose in the box. Add some fish, blood and bone to the new soil. Mulch with compost or rotted manure. Put the old soil somewhere else in the garden if you can.
@Busy-Lizzie, I was wondering how the rose you planted in a box was coming along, also, did you remove the bottom of the box? I read this is what you do?
My rose, a red rambler, Chevy Chase is doing really well, no sign of disease. It is now growing along the top of the rose arch and there are several strong canes from the base.
I didn't remove the bottom of the box. It is probably soggy and rotted by now, turning into compost.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Busy-Lizzie, thank you for your reply and moving my post. I still haven't planted my roses yet. I am transplanting from pot to ground and I will need to put some where other roses have been so I will need to get some boxes.

Husband spotted a baby fox in our garden this morning so I am on edge with excitement (sitting by the window with my binoculars but no joy yet). Does anyone here have an outdoor wildlife camera they'd recommend?
Now starting to uplift dahlias and repot my pelargoniums for the winter, but still time for few rose snaps.
