Whilst I am occasionally prone to the temptation of beauty, novelty, or sheer curiosity, I wouldn’t say I’m acquisitive, as such. In my climate many roses do not cope with the summer heat - they shut down too long, bloom less than I find acceptable, the blooms fry in the sun or the humidity levels are such that they are far too prone to fungal diseases. So my acquisitions are researched as much as possible, but I often have to take a leap into the unknown.
I’m hoping that by the time we downsize (inevitably to a smaller garden) I will have whittled it down to a far more manageable list of must-haves. Meanwhile, I have the space and I get great intellectual satisfaction as well as immense pleasure from my rose trials and tribulations. It’s a rare joy indeed when it all comes together and a beautiful, acceptably healthy, floriferous, weather-resistant and fragrant rose emerges from the pack.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Finger’s crossed for you @Wild_Violet. You must’ve struck lucky to find that standard in stock (a cancellation perhaps) since it has been showing OOS for most of the season.
That’s a sneaky tactic of Tack’s to exclude trial roses/pots to disguise the real number. If I did that I could knock at least 20 off my list at current count!
I missed Crépuscule/Not Crépuscule from my list. I’m hanging onto it for now to see if it is more Crépuscule-like next year.
I was caught out by the time difference so was about an hour or so late when they opened their bare root ordering in July. Many old favourites were already OOS but there were still some standard MWs. I can only imagine how beautiful this rose would be so really hope it comes.
@WAMS, how do you find Kathryn? I'm interested because that is my name, spelled correctly (so many different spellings of Kathryn!)
Kathryn is my little girl's name. Beautiful name. It's a sweet little rose... unscented and small, but it's adorable. I love its colour variations between fuchsia, rose pink and white. I happened to notice the other day that it's dieback-free, too. It was cheap from R V Roger and despite being newly planted from bareroot last winter it became the first rose in my garden to bloom this year- on May 18th. I planted it where it got swamped by Fragrant Plum last year, so am moving to a more prominent spot this weekend hopefully. Dear little rose. I think you should get it.
@ElbFee also has it if she's hereabouts... long time no see though, sadly.

Agree. Very sneaky.😁
Hope it comes, @Wild_Violet... that would be pretty spectacular!
Does anyone grow patio or miniature roses, specifically those with scent? I ask because I am running out of space but would like to grow a smattering of smaller roses in pots closer to windows. Other than that, I am thinking of trying more climbing roses.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
Did you miss where I admitted to 80 ish in total earlier? You all know which roses I have in pots, I feel I post them too often, but if anyone wants I am happy to list them
I am unshameable in my rose acquisitiveness. It's my only interest that costs anything and I only started spending any money at all on the garden 4 years ago.
Ignore that question. As the shipping would be £10 there would be no point not paying the extra for grade A. The plant would be less than the shipping. I may have to think of more plants to order ....
