Anyone got a Raj Green sandstone patio?

  • Be careful  if you decide to seal it. A neighbour of ours had his sealed soon after laying it and it trapped  the white effelecence between the surface of the stone and the sealent.

    Yes, there is a risk of that, maybe they did it too soon after laying the patio? I think it's best to wait 2-3 months so I'd probably be doing it next spring after a gentle clean.

    By comparison, this is how it looks when wet with rain. I like the contrast between how it looks when wet & dry, which I guess will be lost if I seal it?

    I’ve never considered putting a sealant on my paving @LeadFarmer as I like the natural look. Are there any off cuts left of your sandstone? If so, you could try some sealant on a bit, leave it to weather for a while and then decide. A sealant will prevent water being absorbed by the stone so the wet and dry colour contrast will be weaker than without it.

    Plantminded Yes I have some spare stones which I could experiment with, however the sealant isn't cheap unless I can purchase sample tins.

    Better to test than making an expensive mistake.
