Closure of posts

I have no problem with posts being shut down if the arguments become spitefully acrimonious but if all it involves is snippily contrasting viewpoints I am disappointed to see the topic closed.

I wrote a full and, I felt, balanced counter argument in the discussion about cats on neighbours’ lawns and now I am aggrieved that I wasted my time doing so.

I think the person who started that thread has probably been given all the possible advice on the subject and it had got quite unpleasant, so I think it's better off closed. I read your counter-argument, so you didn't completely waste your time.

I reported it and asked for it to be looked at, as I felt things were heading the way they always do with this topic, and more importantly, posters were asking perfectly normal questions and being given snotty responses. We've got enough of that on the forum just now IMO, with the present handful of 'perpetrators of rudeness', without having even more of it .

    They obviously agreed with me.

@BenCotto  … I can only assume that the OP realised that he had misunderstood some of the replies he received and got the tone of his posts totally wrong, and requested that the thread be closed to save himself from further embarrassment.
Possibly he’ll reappear at a later date, under a new name and with a better understanding of how to get the best out of this helpful forum.

    @BenCotto
I understand your emotions in feeling aggrieved. I have felt the same way over different posters on different threads, and in those cases, have either chosen to avoid returning to that thread, or activated the "ignore" option in the instance of one poster.

Rather than leave here, and thus cause us to lose your opinions, why not try one of the options I have taken.

People will be people, and no-one is going to agree with everything that is said. Heck, I don't always agree with my wife, but we accept our differences, and move on.

Edited to add: No time or opinion is wasted.
  • I also read your post @BenCotto and whilst I don’t agree I value you opinion.

I did however, find it interesting that that thread was closed so quickly by the mods and yet the thread about private profiles has got no acknowledge of the issues raised.

Did we ever work out how to stop wolves shitting on grass? I may have missed some posts.

We had done in the UK - we eradicated them. Some bright spark has had the idea of reintroducing them. Assumedly so that they can leave their not so little piles on our lawns.

A thought occurred to me … I’d best just whisper it … maybe reintroduced wolves might just solve the feline problem?

Easy enough for the Mods to close  a thread.

Changing how a forum works is a more a matter for the hosting platform and I presume requires a degree of negotiation.

Wolves might help to reduce the vast overpopulation of Deer, which are really hindering attempts to increase our forests.
