I like the ‘like’ button. It’s nice to be able to acknowledge my appreciation of a post, or to show my agreement without having to type in a full post. Can be tiresome if reading through a thread and half the posts are one-liners basically saying they agree with the OP or they liked the picture. Quick and easy and doesn’t take over the thread.
Thanks @Dovefromabove that's useful information. I only use a laptop so I wouldn't have known the names don't appear when using a mobile. If you use a laptop @rowlandscastle444 you will be able to see the names and no problem with it being you!
I'm sure @franiom isn't asking the question so that she can come on the forum every day and see just how popular she is.
Now and again l post on the Garden Gallery thread, and people use the like button a lot to show that, guess what, they like the photos they are looking at. They use it to show appreciation, of the work, the colour, the planting combinations etc.
Being human, l won't deny that it is gratifying to see 15, 16, 17 or even more likes against my photos. If that makes me a raving bighead with an ego the size of Jupiter, then so be it. I accept the likes in the spirit they were intended. If you don't want to use the like button, then don't use it. It's not compulsory .
If you want to use it as a competition, then by all means do so. It's not a crime, but unfortunately you will have to buy your own chocolate biscuits or air miles.
PS Edited to add, thanks @Eustace and @Dovefromabove for explaining that you only see the ten most recent likes. Much appreciated as I didn't know that.
What benefits does one receive if you get more "likes"? It certainly isn't chocolate biscuits, or even air miles.
vanity? ego?
I don't think is vanity or ego. I think it helps reaffirm a piece of advice given. If I recieve advice and it has a bunch of likes it reassures me that it's good advice.
Posts
My phone just shows 1 Like, or 2 Likes, etc. Maybe it's because I'm using my mobile. Or maybe it's because I'm, well, me!!🤔
