I guess I'm in the minority who say bring it on! I've never got cash so it used to be a right pain if I ever needed to park anywhere. I wouldn't like to say I'm addicted to my smartphone but I guess life would be a lot more difficult without it. I pretty much only ever visit this forum on a phone, I'm surprised when I hear anything different 😆.
Going off topic a bit, but I was in a shop today and got stuck behind a lady who had been convinced to get a storecard. The woman behind the counter was filling in the form by hand, which was taking an eternity, and asked for her mobile phone number. She responded by saying she didn't have a mobile phone. The woman filling in the form looked disgusted and said I can't complete this without a mobile phone number, as they use that to send you offers. I'm guessing she would have got something for signing her up, whereas all she did was waste everybody's time.
There's usually a machine as an alternative. But personally I much prefer the app based system, it's usually Ringo. I did have a horrible experience trying to park at Lake Windermere with none of the machines working and no 4G coverage and therefore unable to download the PayByPhone app, I nearly broke down in tears lol.

I downloaded ringo. The only app so far. I then discovered that there was no other ringo car park remotely near me. The final nail in the coffin was the 20p surcharge for the ' convenience' of using the app. @#£% that says I and went into M&S free car park. I didn't bother to go down to the shops near the pay car park so they lost my custom and have done for many months.
Wait til you have an electric car. You can't drive them without a phone. I currently have 5 charging apps plus the car's own app on my phone. The Government have said they're going to make it more universal, but at the moment there are dozens of different apps for public chargers. A few just let you plug in and pay, but many don't.

Surely it's discrimination...
