The only time I've come across a car park like that was when I was staying with my sister, and she did the necessary on her phone. I think she'd already got the app set up.

Here they do civilised things like one hour's free parking or free over thelunch period form 12 till 2 which encourgaes shoppers and diners to come and do their bit for the local economy. You enter your car reg and, if necessary, use your debit card to pay.
Bit of a shock in May when in a bit of Nantes we didn't know (looking for an African wax fabric shop) and they had coin meters!!
Other than that shopping centres and SMs have free parking and there is park and ride in towns like Nantes and public transport is free on Saturdays so people are encouraged to go out and socialise, go to the cinema or theatre, sight-seeing and shopping.

I haven’t been to our biggest town which is about 20 miles or more away since 2003. last time I went to the hospital there , there was a machine in the foyer where you put the disc in and it tells you what you owe, then just show it the card. That was 9 years ago so I don’t know what goes on there.
I had to get the app., because in town there are no other spaces close enough to my walking distance. Moira sorted it out, but I can use it easily enough. Irrelevant at the moment, because I can't drive.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
All the carparks in the Borders towns and villages are free parking .... to encourage visitors to stay and spend. When we go to Edinburgh we use the Park & Ride which is also free and we can plug in the car if we want to. The buses into the centre are frequent and also free as we've got bus passes now were are 60.
I don't have a smartphone.
