Has the proliferation of pay by phone car parks changed your shopping habits?

If there was just one, I wouldn't mind. But, even within a town, there can be several different apps. They all expect you to give information that I'd rather not give to all and sundry.

I don't have a smartphone, can't use them. They annoy me to hell.  I usually head for the nearest supermarket with free parking.

Bit behind times were we live,  only once did I use my credit card in a car park,  that was in a woodland,  but all I had to do was put the car number and show the card like any contactless payment.  In our town they just have the ones where you put your car number in and put money in the slot.
We haven’t got phones that you put apps on so no good for us.
The only time we go out is for appointments and that’s very rare,  we’re not ones for driving around for recreation.

I refuse to get a smart phone. My current phone was very high end in it's day and does the interwebs and all who sail in her. It has everything I need, except signal, but that's not the phone's fault.
It does not, however, do apps.
Thankfully, since moving to civilisation, I do not have to deal with these things...yet.
    Long may it continue.

I don't mind those ones at all @Lyn but I don't want to give my bank details to the app companies that expect you to set up an account.
Some even expect you to pay an additional fee for the convenience

We had a rotten experience last year visiting in Woodbridge, Suffolk when we found we had no coins at all in the car as usual, our fault I know. Tried for the first time on my newish smartphone to pay via the app, didn't even know what an app was,  couldn't see the screen because of brilliant sunshine, couldn't hear or understand the instructions and threw a complete wobbly and ended up in tears/rage. Luckily for us, an extremely kind passer-by just gave us the £2 in coins needed. I am normally quite a confident person but it threw me unexpectedly. Must be getting old!

It rocked my confidence in being able to cope in strange towns and carparks and am now extremely apprehensive. I dread having to park at our local hospital but fortunately we can get there by bus.

    Don't drive, don't have a car, don't park.
But when my wife does, it's either at a supermarket with free parking, or at the local farm shop (again, free parking).

The trouble with the supermarket car parks is that they tend to be away from the main shopping centre. We stick to SM car parks or don't visit the town.

  • We get Sainsburys(there are other supermarkets) to deliver for less than £2, so saved on parking, fuel and saved the planet a bit too by not driving my car.

I can't remember the last time I " went shopping " in a town centre.
It was before we moved to Devon and that was nearly 12 years ago
