I'm curious to know if anyone has ever bought a product after seeing it advertised on this site?
Devon.

I don't think I've ever bought anything purely on the strength of an advert. Does anyone, on seeing an ad, think "what a good idea I'll buy one of those right away"? Personal recommendations are much more useful.

No - nor anything out of a newspaper or anyone who posted ads through the letterbox or knocked on the door or stopped me in the street or phoned me

Nearly bought a car after seeing it on an advert. Not a ‘marque’ I would normally have looked at, but the shape and size just caught my eye. We didn’t buy one in the end, but did go to the showroom for a look and did consider it. Adverts tend to have the opposite effect on me than intended. Refuse to buy Lenor, because of the ads featuring irrelevant American comedians. Now have had to give up my alternative Persil and Comfort because of Unilever’s stand on sales in Russia. Just hoping I don’t see any Method adverts!

Problem is … if we let on to the advertising companies that their adverts don’t work, who’s going to subsidise this forum and the magazine and all the other things they help pay for …. Us!?!?!?! 😱

Just for clarity, doesn't this forum receive any funding from the BBC, or is it the publishers Immediate Media Co that stands the costs.

I know I’m going to regret saying this because they’ll suddenly reappear, but I don’t have an ad blocker, don’t get ads on here and no longer get those constant prompts to accept cookies and data scraping info. Maybe iPad/Safari have done something..

Like others I’ve never been tempted to buy anything by an ad, even the ones I find clever or amusing. Given the £££s spent on them, there must be enough susceptible folks out there that do. Or perhaps it works on such a deep subconscious level we don’t even know we’ve been influenced by something viewed months or even years ago.
