Hello Hemerocallis fans.. I’m after some ‘noir’ ones, well dark burgundy/mulberry tones and picked out the ones below from a French supplier to try. Does anyone grow any of these, have any opinions on them or other suggestions? These were the simplest I could find as I don’t like them too frou frou.
Also, ordering seems to open in August, which seems a rather hot time of year to be sending through the post. Especially here, considering the journey usually takes about 10 days. Are they normally cut back at that time?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I've had my eye on that American Revolution, Nollie.. I like the colour and form..
Over here, where I've ordered from, they despatch bare root in Mar/April.. and again from late August to October.. I presume bare roots again.. normally get 2 roots per plant each with a little crown or scape if I recall.. You should be able to plant them straight out.. after all, at that time we can dig up our daylilies, divide and replant, which is what I intend to do with a couple of mine..
Nollie Strictlydaylilies.com dispatch them from April to October, but depending on the weather, and they only take a day or two to arrive. I am surprised that the post will take ten days, but I think they will cope. I don't grow the three you want. I have Black Adder, Black Plush, Dark Monkey, Fleichal's Black and Georgette Belden, which all do well for me.
My favourite of those three too, Marlorena. Great to hear they might be ok through the post. Ideally I would order later, but there’s always a risk they sell out.
10 days is normal from France to Spain @Alan Clark2 in Liverpool, the last leg to our rural location always seems to take forever. Thanks for the recommendations, will have a gander.
My current shortlist is from bourdillon-iris.com, because I’m buying a good number of their bearded irises and cheaper to order from one site. However, I’ve just had a look at that new site @floralies, thanks, their ‘Black Emannuelle’ and a few others do look extremely tempting!

I love those very dark daylilies. Didn't know they came in such colours!
@CatDouch I love that! I also have Cafe au Lait Twist this year but it has so far looked like Café au Lait, perhaps a hint of blush. Where's MY garish pink?
..just as well I'm on fibre now, photos upload in an instant..

Perhaps @Alan Clark2 in Liverpool can advise further as he grows a lot of them..
