Elderly Parents Garden

CatDouchCatDouch Posts: 488
My parents are in their late 80’s and have always been avid gardeners, they have lived here since 1961 and this is the house that I was brought home from hospital in 1964.

They are now both quite frail so are limited with what they can do in the garden, they have a chap who cuts the grass every fortnight and my Dad potters around as much as he can with his walking stick.

I visited them yesterday (they live 100 miles from me) and my Dad was saying that he hated the fact that he couldn’t do as much in his beloved garden as he used to but I said to him that I thought the garden looked beautiful .  Interestingly, since he has stopped spraying and using pesticides (he was of that era, despite my protestations) they have loads of birds and a family of foxes haves moved in at the very end of the garden. They don’t feed them but get so much joy from watching the vixen and the cubs playing.

I hope you agree that their garden isn’t bad for an elderly couple, I’d love to pass some positive comments onto him.

It's a beautiful garden. I'd love to sit on that bench!

Oh that’s lovely . Nothing to complain about there , I can see the odd weed but only with close scrutiny. I think your folks should be proud of their achievements, I’m not that far behind them in age ,and my garden is nowhere near as lovely . Well done them !

My Dad is 86 and still enjoys pottering around his garden even though he has had to adapt things and pace himself.
Tell your Dad his garden is absolutely beautiful and he should be very proud of it :). I can see the love and care.

I'd be proud if it were mine. Perfect spot for a Summer Pimms.

What a beautiful garden and a haven for your parents I’m sure! It’s a credit to them and I bet they’ve put hours of love into tending it over the years so now they can take time to sit on the bench and reap the benefits of all their work, as well as enjoy all the wildlife - they deserve it 👍😊

Is the four legged friend a resident or visitor? He/she looks extremely happy in the garden.

What a beautiful garden, if only mine looked half as good!

A lot of care and thought has gone into your Dad's garden, it's delightful!  I like the shape of the borders, the combinations of plants and the mystery of the meandering lawn!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Thanks so much for all your lovely comments about my parents garden, I shall read them all out to them and hopefully they’ll be reassured that their garden is still lovely!

That’s my dog, Connie, in the photos @BettyWales she always enjoys visiting my parents especially now the fox family live there, she’s find all sorts of disgusting things that the foxes have left behind, old bones and lots of poo!!
