@KT53 The old marquee was replaced in 2000 at that point access did improve with the new structure. The number of gardens continue to grow and as you say crowds increase.Tuesday used to be for RHS members not sure if it any easier then.
The old marquee was cut up and made into bags/ aprons etc. I think.
The GC was lovely today there were two huge Olives a blue sky as a backgound made me think of a mini version of Chelsea.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
The hard work put into them is unimaginable and is deserving of recognition. .
Think of the maintenance that most of the medal winning show gardens got at Chelsea, and will need in their final home. I bet they don't get anywhere near enough, and will look a mess in a year. In 5 years they will be back to nature; they are half way there in plant community terms..
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand. "Have nothing in your garden that you don't know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
Horatio's gardens, Salisbury,Cardiff, Belfast,Stanmore, Stoke Manderville etc and soon to be Sheffield. In memory of a charismatic selfless young man, to me that in it's self is very good reason to relocate these gardens.

I agree Hostafan , as a child we had the usual lawn and borders all round it with a couple of fir trees by the garden gate . Our garden was full of birds of all sorts ,caterpillars, butterflies ,hedgehogs, frogs bees ,flies wasps ,all visiting on and off all summer long . All this carry on is just nonsense,I reckon .
By the way ,to whoever it was that asked about the new DA rose . It’s not very special ,just a rose ,but can be seen on the DA website with all the facts about it , till Saturday.
IMHO the whole " rewilding / embrace weeds " is horticultural Emperor's New Clothes.
Not just horticultural @Hostafan1. Farmers are now being paid more to set aside good agricultural land, or plant trees on it, at a time when we should be looking to become more self sufficient not less. How will the poor vegans cope? are they going to eat trees?

I'm not a vegan, but as far as I am aware we could reduce the amount of land in agricultural use - and reduce agricultural imports - if we cut out, or reduced, meat consumption.
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
The trouble with that @Loxley is that the land livestock use in many cases is not useful as arable land.
But it could be grazed less intensively to create better wildlife habitats. I'm not sure how practical that would be for farmers who are of course under pricing pressures, but the wildlife trusts are doing it on some of their land eg https://www.ywt.org.uk/amazing-grazing. Last time I was at Potteric Carr they had both cattle (highland coos) and sheep (black ones - hebridean maybe) grazing, in different areas.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
